I hate to say it, but this is a CD rip. The audio is weak with a gain of +6 dB, that is usually due to the audio source being a CD. 😕

Edited one year agoThis release comes down to a matter of flavour - I personally really like the improved bass response. It’s very warm, yet still retains enough detail in the mid-upper frequencies to avoid sounding boxed-in. The vinyl counterpart of this release sucks - the pressings are extremely noisy, so it’s worth having the SACD as a back-up. Not having listened to this album for the better part of 40 years, I had completely forgotten what a spectacular album this is. Well done MOFI.

Found this for cheap so bought it to see what the CD layer sounds like as I don’t have a SACD player. Very pleased I can report - sounds great. Hopefully one day I will get a player to experience it properly.
I have the vinyl version which is amazing & obviously better than this CD layer - so at least I can appreciate the potential of this release through that format.
Great album that should be in anyones collection in any format they can acquire. -

The nice way to state my opinion would be: im too used to the original master to be able to enjoy this disc.
The truth is: the disc is not trash, but the mastering is absolutely flawed. The bass is more prominent, high frequency detail is veiled and rythm and natural soundstage suffer as a result. It keeps this great album from rocking the way it should. Im curious if the shm-sacd is better. The original cd is notably better in almost every area. above all: its fun. If you find the original cd bright: take a look at your system, because the cd itself is mastered really well.
