The best SMD! Two excellent tracks building the roots of the happy hardcore tree. The B-side has an amazing stab pattern.

I'm not sure if this record was released in 1994 but if it was, shame on you Slipmatt! The tune which I will refur to as "Black Side" (its the black side, it doesnt have a name) was rinsed out in 1992 by some of the top DJs of the time. However the first time I heard this tune was when I scored this 12" off a DJ in Brooklyn who was selling me the Slammin Vinyl back catalog. In the process I scored all the SMDs save for #1 which I already had. When I first heard SMD#2 "Black Side" I hated it as it had cords playing over other cords in an awkward fashion. These cords seemed to clash which they do! Never the less "Black Side" grew on me and now, at this moment its my favorite SMD track of all. What does it for me in this track is the exremely heavy amen break and that bubbling bassline. This groove is to die for, fun to mix with, and since this I have yet to hear a groove this heavy in any sort of track. Later I found out that this track rips "The Phantom" but the Phantom was never this good.

Slipmatts second release on the label continues where the last left off. Using lesser know samples, the vinyl boasts tunes both dark and light. Pianos lead the way on the info with uplifting vocals laid on top for good measure. The better known of the tunes lies on the flipside though with a darker, bass driven edge that fails to dissapoint. Slipmatt actually remixed the flipside but never released it unfortunately, although it did appear unmixed on an album.

A side is yet another rip off of Alex Lee - Take It while the AA side uses Renegade Soundwave's Phantom for inspiration.
