Edited one year agoIf Red Alert & Mike Slammer only ever dropped the Slammer, Original Bad Boy and the Hold Tight EPs they still would have been ed as amongst the finest producers of that era.
Instead of resting on their laurels they dropped this absolute beast, two once in a lifetime tunes on one bit of plastic and undoubtedly their masterpiece, every single sound I could ever want to hear is on these tunes (and sometimes all at once).
I cannot imagine the scenes in the studio once they’d hooked up that Bizarre Inc - Plutonic sample for In Effect. -
Edited one year agoI have a first release of this an on the b side it has the slamming vinyl logo in green and on the other there is no writing it has a futuristic picture of a satellite in a space town and at the bottom what looks like a pyramid?
My copy also also has the etching that says Pepsi your name is on the record on the picture side
picture posted waiting for approval
Does anyone else have this version??? -
I’m sure you all know this already but Don’t Need Your Love, the MC Conrad sample is from Dreamscape 4, it’s found on LTJ Bukem’s set before the first track starts playing

Edited 2 years agoIn my top 500 tunes of all time, across all genres in there with Brian Wilson and the beatles. Just incredible, they nailed it 11/10
I will pay very silly money for a mint copy of the first pressing send me a msg -
The original release also had a black/yellow version. I bought mine in around 1995 from Troublesome Records in Kingston, this was before the repress.

There are 2 very similar pressings of this. One pressing has 'In Effect' on the logo side, whereas the other has 'Don't Need Your Love' on the logo side.
On the copies that have 'Don't Need Your Love' on the logo side, the message "Pepsi. Your name is on the record!!" has been scratched out. I would guess that this was a slightly later run. -
Edited 6 years agoA lot of the ragga samples on Don't Need Your Love are from Stone love 92 tape. Here around the 20 min mark.

In Effect is one of those tunes that encomes the whole scene at that moment in time. It's stupendously good imo!
