I’ve spun this a few times now and shot it out against a UK first edition and, to my surprise, the MoFi just about wins out (on my system with my ears).
The UK, marginally, has more punch - it is spikier. But the MoFi still has enough heft whilst pulling out detail and adding definition to details buried a little beneath the surface on the UK. For example, I can really hear the nuance of the backing vocals, and the piano - when it comes to the fore - sounds more natural and organic.
MoFi, unusually, have also done a decent job with the jacket and artwork.
In summary, if I could more than live with either. They both sound good in their own way. And I’m not sure I’d pay idiot money for the MoFi. But I’m glad to have them both.
Oh, and as remarked below, the track listing differs slightly between the two. -
another throw your blanket over your speakers and crank up the bass 4 db production by mofi,,, rumors has it they stopped half speed mastering their albums, You dont say?,,Why do they still sound bad? Turn it up as much as you want folks it does not get any better,,,,

This is my favorite Elvis Costello record; and there are a LOT of Elvis Costello records. It is very nostalgic for me—this record really takes me back to a specific place and time in my life. New wave music was a big part of my musical tastes at that time and even still now. I bought my first copy in the early 80’s and it was one of the first records I ever purchased. My favorite tracks are “Accidents Will Happen”, “Oliver’s Army”, “Green Shirt” and “Two Little Hitlers”; but all the tracks on this album are very strong.
This MFSL limited edition, numbered, half-speed pressing is flawless. It has a moderately weak signal (-6 dB on my scale) but this is made up for by the pressing being whisper quiet. This recording has very little dynamic range compression (-0.2 as measured by DRC-Meter).
