I own this version and the first pressing. This is the one for audiophiles to have.

Sounds like you are right there in the room just like the Alice in Chains Unplugged. This pressing is everything that makes a great pressing. Flat records, clean vinyl, excellent mastering. I am thrilled that I chose to purchase this over the weekend at Zia Records.

The story of how this legendary performance by this legendary band has been the subject of numerous articles and documentaries. Kurt's vision for the performance differed radically from that of MTV's. Upon finding out that Nirvana would be playing its lesser known songs and covers from bands like Meat Puppets, MTV tried to pressure the band into playing more of their hits, or inviting more popular bands to play with the band. In addition, Cobain was unconvinced that Grohl would be able to play in a restrained fashion (Grohl was given brushes for the first time, and adapted to them immediately). Things were so tense, Cobain actually left the studio during rehearsals, but returned for the taping. The band recorded everything in a single take, unknown to that point. The result is nothing short of amazing, which is captured almost perfectly on this record. The mastering makes it sound like you are in the studio with the band. It has a liveness and warmth to it that is very difficult to capture, but is reflected on this recording. The bonus rehearsal material is a nice time capsule extra to boot (Pennyroyal Tea is especially interesting as it is in a different, higher key, the performance version is much better). This double LP version blows the single disc out of the water in of sonics, and is definitely the one to own.

Picked this up as I wasn’t all that happy with the single LP Purple Vinyl. Glad I did… WOW! Feel like I am there. Very happy with the upgrade. Worth seeking!
