Audioslave – Audioslave

I played this album on repeat for a few years straight, so I know it very well. I had the 2017 reissue for years and tight it sounded pretty good, pretty much like my CD, but a little better, so I was happy with it. But then I decided to go for this since it is supposedly cut from the same metalwork as the original European presses and the reviews were good. This absolutely is better than the 2017, and it's like hearing this for the first time again. The bass is huge but never interferes with the vocals, which I felt was a problem with the 2017. This is one of the best modern rock vinyl pressings I own now. I will blast this on the regular

Disappointing. Love this album and was excited to add the (double!) LP to my collection, but man does ot sound muddy and compressed. The opener “Cochise” starts with about a great half-minute of distortion noise build-up - something sounded off right away, but I thought maybe it would open up once the guitar riff hit. Nope. Still muddy. Listenable but no reason to have this pressing on vinyl.

If anyone has an extra copy of the liner notes please me!

I merched for them when this album was released. There was no clear sticker or reference to the album. The OG copies were mainly sold on tour which had no sticker on them. Actually, quite valuable.

Certainly not the best I have in my collection, but it's very serviceable. This album is pretty brickwalled in general, regardless of format. This pressing specifically is not gonna blow you away, but it's definitely not as bad as some other modern reissues.

I find that EQ'ing it makes a big difference in bringing out the clarity. I upped the treble and very slightly reduced the mids, and kept the bass flat. Helps open it up a little, at least on my setup. It's also pretty dead silent, which is rare for a MRP press.

My thought - if this is one of your favorite albums, I'd seek out the MOV since it sounds like that one is better. But for casual fans like me, for the right price, I don't hate it. I have a feeling some of the other folks that have issues with distortion and major compression got a bad copy (which is very possible given MRP's QC issues)

Certainly better than the digital version, which has a much more compressed master.
It sounds good, but I’m not giving it 5 stars because during the more saturated moments in the high frequencies (intense riffs, hi-hats, vocals), I feel it struggles a bit, and the sound "loses body."

Woah! One word.. Amazing! What a pressing this is. Incredibly balanced and dynamic, great sound output! This really is the pressing to get. You won't be dissapointed 🤟

Too many eggs don't make a cake. A bit too warbling to hold my unadulterated attention.
