Disappointing. Love this album and was excited to add the (double!) LP to my collection, but man does ot sound muddy and compressed. The opener “Cochise” starts with about a great half-minute of distortion noise build-up - something sounded off right away, but I thought maybe it would open up once the guitar riff hit. Nope. Still muddy. Listenable but no reason to have this pressing on vinyl. -
Certainly not the best I have in my collection, but it's very serviceable. This album is pretty brickwalled in general, regardless of format. This pressing specifically is not gonna blow you away, but it's definitely not as bad as some other modern reissues.
I find that EQ'ing it makes a big difference in bringing out the clarity. I upped the treble and very slightly reduced the mids, and kept the bass flat. Helps open it up a little, at least on my setup. It's also pretty dead silent, which is rare for a MRP press.
My thought - if this is one of your favorite albums, I'd seek out the MOV since it sounds like that one is better. But for casual fans like me, for the right price, I don't hate it. I have a feeling some of the other folks that have issues with distortion and major compression got a bad copy (which is very possible given MRP's QC issues) -
Plenty of bass, sounds fat and wide. Needed a damn good clean as those cardboard inners are the worst for static and muck. That aside, still a top notch pressing. -

The audio quality sounds like a 192kbps mp3 rip from Napster. Not the worst I’ve heard (that would be the rsd Poison release) but it’s pretty noticeably bad. -

Edited one year agoThis pressing sounds fantastic. The best I've heard the album. Compression effect is not a problem here which makes this a real win. Only weird thing is my barcode on the gatefold doesn't match this listing but the matrix read-out is exact.

Extremely compressed pressing, would recommend avoiding. Audible distortion throughout. A few clicks, but nothing major
