Genesis – Tres

Sorry but this sounds as if they wrapped the microphones in sweaty socks.

Second copy I have of this cassette edition of Tres sounds normal on side two, but side one has the entire stereo track on the left channel, with the right being dead silent? Must be a weird oddity with my copy as the tape looks brand new!

There are earlier Canadian issues with the same, catalog, label, and matrix, but with a pasted gatefold sleeve, along with minor differences, such as no red leaf in the upper left corner.

Bought brand new sealed from an independent seller for 37 CAD. My copy has matrix: BD00965-01 A1 LP BOX 14 A-1/B-1 ⓂMiles THE PARADIGM ½ SPEED PROCESS. Mixed by Nick Davis (2008) at The Farm, Surrey. Record is almost flat but is not perfectly centered. Gatefold jacket is great and the sleeve is not a typical cheap paper one, which is great. Pressing quality is not too bad, some small clicks here and there, but nothing too distracting. It sounds much more cleaner than the Qobuz 2007 digital remaster version I've heard, which sounds much more muddy and dark... But this vinyl version can also sound a bit too clean and compressed to my ears... Especially with cymbals and vocals, which can sound a bit thin, glary and a borderline distorted at times. I'm missing some of the organic touch of the digital version to be honest. But in of separation, this vinyl version blows the 2007 digital version out of water. Overall, it's not bad for the price, but definitely not stunning... 4.4 / 5

I'm guessing all the vinyl reissues since 2010 uses the Nick Davis remix, including this pressing.... judging from the "LP BOX" in the runout matrices.... ?

IMHO this can be considered the definitive edition of Tres, pressed on heavy vinyl at half speed. Compared to this, the first print sounds muffled and with a general lower definition. In this remaster, from the first song onwards you can appreciate the clarity of the sounds, the presence of the voice, the general balance finally reproduced.
I write from Italy and I love the B side, whose songs were a great inspiration for Italian Prog (PFM first and foremost), The knife is as powerful as I've ever heard it.
The 1986 Japanese edition (https://discogs.sitiosdesbloqueados.info/release/5616584-Genesis-Tres) sounds good, like the Nick Davis mix in the 1970-1975 box set, but if you want to listen to the original mix with the best quality, you have to buy this one: you can find it at a very affordable price.

My pink scroll G1/G1 is easily the best sounding Tres that I've heard . It beats the early large Hatter pressings by some distance .

With this pressing, the sound is good, clear and powerful enough. If you find it cheap, take advantage of it.

very disappointed with this reissue. The sound is not good, it's muffled.
People always praise UK pressings, but you can skip this one.

Vocals are kind of muddy. Gave it a good cleaning. Don't know if the previous owner didn't take care of it, or if that's how it was supposed to sound.
