    RE: http://discogs.sitiosdesbloqueados.info/Led-Zeppelin-Led-Zeppelin-II/release/3894026

The current entry has the following info:

Matrix / Runout: Side One: ST-A-69167I-Y
Matrix / Runout: Side Two: ST-A-691672-Y
Label Code: Side One/Label: ST-A-691671 SP
Label Code: Side Two/Label: ST-A-691672 SP
    Other: SRC logo

    My copy has:

    Side One: + SLMΔ1977 ST-A-691671 Z B-14604-Z SP 0-1
    Side Two: + SLMΔ1977X ST-A-691672-Z B-14605 0-1
Label Code: Side One/Label: ST-A-691671 SP
Label Code: Side Two/Label: ST-A-691672 SP
    No SRC logo

Everything else matches perfectly. Should this be a new pressing to the database?

Should this be a new pressing to the database?

One could be a repress of the other, see related thread here > http://discogs.sitiosdesbloqueados.info/help/forums/topic/355296

In any case those 'ST-A-691671 SP' and 'ST-A-691672 SP' numbers are 'label matrix numbers', not 'label codes'.

These need to be entered more or less like:
Matrix / Runout (Label, Side A): ST-A-691671 SP
Matrix / Runout (Label, Side B): ST-A-691672 SP

This is what a Label Code (LC) looks like
    > http://www.westblockmusic.com/images/logo_labelcode_LC-22943_150x60.jpg

It's a common identifier found on European releases since the 1980s, and has an entirely different purpose.

So mine SHOULD be a new entry then?

  • Show this post
No expert, but the SLMΔ1977 prefix suggests this may be a Monarch pressing (MΔ), subsequent to a Specialty pressing (the SP suffix) shown in the runouts

  • Show this post
According the the runout groove thread:

    SLM △
    S, H or HS? S, H
Add a company: Mastered at Sheffield Lab Matrix
Add a note: "SLM △" in the runout etching indicates that the lacquer disc was processed at, and the metal parts used to manufacture the record were made at Sheffield Lab Matrix.
    Location Link: None
Example: Dial-M* - Modern Day Love / House Of Joy

    >>>As such yours is definitely a different pressing and should be a new version.

    In this case yes:

    MJG196
Matrix / Runout: Side One: ST-A-69167I-Y
Matrix / Runout: Side Two: ST-A-691672-Y
Label Code: Side One/Label: ST-A-691671 SP
Label Code: Side Two/Label: ST-A-691672 SP
    Other: SRC logo

This one was both processed and pressed by Specialty Records Corporation, also see the embossed lettering in the label area around the center hole "E A S T" which also confirms to be a Specialty pressing.

    My copy has:

    Side One: + SLMΔ1977 ST-A-691671 Z B-14604-Z SP 0-1
    Side Two: + SLMΔ1977X ST-A-691672-Z B-14605 0-1
Label Code: Side One/Label: ST-A-691671 SP
Label Code: Side Two/Label: ST-A-691672 SP
    No SRC logo

The "ST-A-691671 & ST-A-691672" matrix numbers indicate that the master tape used is dated 1969:
    ST = Stereo
A = Code for the label: Atlantic
69 = Year of the Master tape.
    1671 & 1672 = Master tape #s.

The "SLM △1977-X" etching dates the master discs to no earlier than 1981:
    http://discogs.sitiosdesbloqueados.info/lists/SLM-0000-SLM-0000-X-Sheffield-Lab-Matrix-etching/124567

The "B-14604 / B-14605" etchings also date the master discs to no earlier than 1981:
    http://discogs.sitiosdesbloqueados.info/lists/B-00000-B-00001-Allied-Record-Company-etchings/124327

This one was processed at Sheffield Lab Matrix and the metal parts used to press the record were actually originally made for use at Allied Record Company. BUT at the moment, it could be either a Specialty pressing (which uses metal parts/stampers originally made for use at Allied Record Company) OR could be an Allied pressing which uses leftover labels originally intended for the Specialty pressing. Is there any embossed lettering around the center hole in the label area on one side? NOTE that the embossed lettering can be faint & almost invisible at first look.

1.) A lone "A" embossed in the label area like this would indicate it was pressed at Allied Record Company.

2.) An "E A S T" embossed around the center hole like this would indicate it was pressed at Specialty Records Corporation (sourced from metal parts that were originally made for use at Allied Record Company based on the etchings). NOTE that usually the "T" is the most visible, sometimes the only really visible letter.

The lack of the embossed lettering could indicate one of the following:

a.) The embossed lettering could be simply to faint to be seen.

b.) The record could be a much later repressing which uses leftover parts from both Allied (the metal mother which the stampers were made from) and Specialty (the center labels used) but could have actually been pressed at a 3rd party pressing plant (such as Music Connection, Inc.)...

On side two, the "E" and "T" are visible. So should I leave the year empty?

Ok then the pressing plant equals:
Pressed By - Specialty Records Corporation

    MJG196
So should I leave the year empty?

Discogs community manager ( nik it's fine to use the original release date of the 'edition' that this pressing is an extension of. Note that both Specialty & Allied were part of the same company at the time as well.
