Quite a pressing. Single records on 45 RPM have always been kind of a pain...ruins the continuity that I've known for the last 50 years. But besides that, just a fantastic sounding record overall. The original was always a bit muffled sounding...and I have six different pressings and they all lack the dynamics of later Genesis records, but CB and BG did an amazing job bringing as much life out of this record as possible. My first brush with this record was pulled out of the cutout racks at my local Peaches Records store, and it was a single cover, (actually I bought this and Foxtrot the same day as they were both on cutout). Both records were terrible sounding, but I later bought OG copies which were an improvement.
This pressing by Quality Record Pressing is the ultimate pressing. The textured gatefold cover is heavy, but unlike many heavy cardboard covers, the records still slide right in and out easily. The records themselves are typical of records that come from Analogue Productions. Heavy, flat, centered, just perfect. One of the most noticeable things about the sound is the high end like cymbal hits. Unlike some remastered records, they sound natural and don't sizzle or hiss. They sound like cymbals. They've also brought the bass up without it stepping on everything else which is another failing of remastered records. Rutherford uses Moog Taurus pedals in numerous places on NC, and they sound like they should. The separation and (dare I say) soundstage is much wider than on even the OG pressings. There's also more depth to the overall sound. The OG's were rather flat sounding. It's funny when you encounter a record like this that has been really fixed. You never thought it could sound so good. It always sounded (for lack of a better term) quite British to me. Lot's of focus on the mids in lieu of everything else. And at $60+ it better be a marked improvement. It is. -

No comments yet. But this pressing sounds A++. I do happen to have a very clean copy here. But also just a very loud, even balanced mix. You can hear everything! -

In reference to a 3rd variant, M1S9. A very wide open early edition has space and hiss and is quite dynamic but the low end is far away and not nearly as resonant nor as detailed as this anomalous edition, Genesis - Nursery Cryme. -
Edited 4 months agoBought brand new sealed from an independent seller for 37 CAD. Gatefold jacket is great. My copy is almost perfectly flat but not perfectly centered. Pressing quality is mostly silent, except for many tics, surface noise and some skips on A1. Decent remix by Nick Davis “at The Farm” (2008). It sounds pretty clear (but not lifeless), with great dynamics. The bass could be a bit tighter IMO, but the drums is the star of the show to my ears. Cymbal hits and snare are not sounding too splashy / one noted or too forced in the mix. Separation is not bad too. Overall, not too bad for the price. The 2 x 45 rpm cut from the original mix is probably sounding better, but you’ll have to pay around 3-4 times the price of this remastered version… Didn’t heard the 2 x 45 rpm version yet to compare, but I personally find this one pretty satisfying for the price. 4.5 / 5

I have the first charisma UK edition which, unfortunately, is ruined by wear and tear (you would say Good/Good), so it was a nice surprise to hear the original mix again in the best possible quality. Textured cover, very quiet heavy vinyl, dynamics that seem superior even to the Classic Records edition (listen to Salmacis) and you can feel a naturalness never heard before, especially on Seven Stones, where the mellotron is fantastic (as someone else already said). I would say the best edition of this masterpiece so far. How much would you be willing to spend for this? I think you should hurry up and buy it because the price, already high, is rising. -

My favorite Atlantic 75 release thus far, as the rawness of the original mix is just perfectly preserved here, with amazing soundstage and clarity. It just adds an overall eerieness to it all. -

Excellent press, nothing to complain about, great sound on all tracks, great job.
What a same they didn’t do the same on Selling England By The Pound, these last two Genesis releases are sublime. -

Difficult question but has anybody heard any difference between the numbered copies and those that haven’t been numbered? Are the unnumbered copies pressed at a different plant? -

Howdy Genesis fans. If anybody has heard both which would you recommend? The Atlantic 75 or......

When I ask about preference it's purely related to sound only: 3d imaging, clarity, instrument seperation and soundstage.
Thanks in advance. -
