The Blapps Posse – Don't Hold Back!

Anyone know which release had “Do what you want to “( instrumental version ) from 90’ know it was released on vinyl back them as I had it on an Allister Whitehead tape from Kool Kat

Don't Hold Back! (Instrumental) is a bouncy, feel good, fun and an eternal instrumental UK hip hop / breakbeat / hip-house classic. Whatever the heck you'd like to file it under! The mix with the rap is rather unnecessary though, really is.

Do What You Want To was quite a big pirate radio track. The lyrics and anything goes style of relaxed, hippy, happy, cheeky rhymes are rather amusing. Subject matter includes getting drunk, going to the zoo, hotties to chicken sandwiches. Not something I'd choose to listen to at a full on rave environment per se but good innocent fun nonetheless.

"Bus' It" is THEE standout track for me. This one though, not the remix from 1991 which became massive and seemed to take most of the headlines. They went a touch too overboard with the scratching on that one I think. Anyway, this mix just epitomised the Blapps! Posse for me. Raw, to the point, slightly out of synch galloping freestyle beats, big bad 808 bass on the drums, a bit of scratching, well chosen samples and a blaring dirty as scum acid type synth which provides the main signature of the track. Rough.

Classic UK breakbeat... Don't Hold Back was caned on London pirate radio stations as was Bus' It. Scratching, hip hop like beats, edgy acid sounds + more than a few samples... all done very well & will make you nod your head.

Showing it's age a little now but it's a decent old skool piece at a reasonable price. Two nice tracks for a small outlay, go for it!

pretty sure the keyboard sample on do what you want to is from Soul Kitchen by The Doors - its been chopped and sped up but reckon its the one.

OK question...On "Bus'it" what and where the hell does the looped sample, in for the first time from 0.59 till 1.11, come from? I'm not talking about the "Listen' up!" but the percussive sound that accompanies it, I'm not even sure its a sample from another source because as the record progresses it gets broken down into a scratch...but any ideas are welcome, also has it been used in anything else cause it deserves its own track??

This is worth having for track B2 which was very popular on pirate radio at the time. It consists of the looped breakbeat intro from Love Unlimited's 'Love's Theme', overlaid with some string stabs, the looped sample 'Bus it, it's time to get busy and...', some scratching of the phrase 'Kick it live now' and topped off with some mad 303 style Acid excerpts. Very funky and heavy on the bass kicks.
