One Of Prince's Masterpieces Of The 1990's. The Title Track Alone Is Reason Enough To Buy This Album. Several Other Classic Mid 90's Era Prince Gems On This With Space, Letitgo, Race & Dark. The Vinyl Is A Big Improvement To The CD And Sounds Wonderful.

Edited one year agoI had to think very long and hard about this album...
Then it hit me....
I had to it that the Title Track ("Come") spoke volumes to me....Not the content, but the music behind it was terrific...In fact, if you really take a closer listen, the music was terrific throughout the whole album...
This was around the time where "Prince" was about to change his name to the "Love Symbol", so he labeled this album "Prince: 1958 - 1993", symbolizing the death of the stage name for "Prince" (Not even wanting to be called the name)....
He used a smaller version of the "NPG" with him on this set ("Sonny T.", Bass; "Michael B.", Drums; "Tommy Barbarella", Keyboards; newly acquired "Mr. (Morris) Hayes", Keyboards as well, and of course "Mayte"), which meant Strong Bass licks, THUMPIN' Drum Kicks, and Terrific Keyboard work......
"Let It Go" is the best song on here, even though "Dark" gives it a good run for its money...
I still have to say it rates good with "Prince's" late work, even though to some "Prince" fans, it feels like a throwaway....But , he was in the middle of his feud with "Warner Bros.", so he would do anything to get out of his contract with them...
It's not a PRINCE CLASSIC, but it not a bad album either..... -

Funky album, not crazy about the 90's drum loops though (or similar sounding stuff from the era)-would have preferred the Linn LM1 or the NPG backing him up on this one.

I hope this is one of the first priorities for a vinyl reissue (along with The Black Album) once the Sony Legacy contract allows in 2021.

My copy has a white round sticker saying 'Contains language that some people may find offensive' rather than a parental advisrory logo as per the cd and cassette.

Come is simply a great abum! 22 years old and still a powerful listen. Diverse, adventureous, experimental and engaging. I don't understand the sub par rating it received here but go have a listen for yourself and decide.

I have to beg to differ from the previous posters here. For me the track "Solo" - which was apparently co-written with David Henry Hwang - is far and away, the standout track on Come. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that it is amongst Prince's best recordings and his VERY best vocal performance, even if he had never sounded so much like a woman. I can't think of any other Prince songs where his vocals sound so naked and without affectation. You could almost imagine that he recorded this for himself without having any intention of putting it in the public arena, to the extent that it almost feels somewhat voyeuristic listening to this. If I haven't already made my point then let me spell it out ; this is something of a masterpiece!
