Edited 28 days ago'We have been very lucky over the past few years to have introduced some very excellent new young talents, but there is none so young and talented as Bernard. He is just 16 years old, in high school, and played like he has been on the scene for more years than he is old'.
From the inner sleeve notes by Dave & Larry.
So there you have it; even more astounding than the music, is the realisation Nard' was just a 16 year old boy when he cut this LP.
And no doubt, he was jus 'Chillin Out' 😎♫♪

Edited 28 days agoNo reason not to adore this album. It's is jazz/funk of the highest caliber, as were most LP's released by GRP records 1980-1984.

Edited 28 days agoThis and Weldon Irvine's "Sinbad" were my main two treasures discovered when I start to dig in the blog era. This one has an impressive lineup of musicians (Marcus Miller! Dave Grusin!), of composers (Weldon Irvine! Don Blackman!) and the energy of them all gathered and put together by the then very young Bernard Wright. All catchy songs that all were sampled and covered to death in a very fun disco/funk/whatever album that never stops being uplifting.

Edited 28 days agoOnly 2 write ups on this album, and none in the past 6 years? This is a must own album that covers multiple genres. It is a staple and document to West Coast hip hop. Side A alone has 3 very recognized samples used by the likes of Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, and Skee Lo. Aside from that, there is the funk-boogie classic Just Chillin Out, which in retrospect is an answer to Tom Browne's Jamaica Funk. I buy any copy of this record I see. Nuff said.

Edited 28 days agoA fantastic disco/boogie/funk outing the whole way through! Features the infamous sample used for Skee-Lo - I Wish
