I just noticed too about how the title track's ending just stops, like they cut the tape off there. I guess all US A&M copies must have this error? -
Pretty good sounding pressing. Very bassy, and like others have said, the kick-drum is very prominent and noticeable.

Edited 3 years agoThis is a 1970 pressing of this classic release from Free. This band had an ordinary ascent until the meteoric success of "All Right Now", which thrust them onto the world stage.
Paul Rodgers' voice is just fantastic, whether on early recording such as this one, or his most current work in the 2020s. This man has longevity and staying power.
Paul Kossoff has become somewhat of a mythical figure among guitarists. His Les Paul tone here is as good as it gets, and the instrument he is playing has become legendary.
The recording is basic, with a simple soundstage, nothing fancy and reasonably tracked instruments. I'm not sure why the drum solo at the end of "Fire and Water" gets truncated abruptly. At times, the ensemble is boomy, so I'm applying a slight shelving to the bass freqs for this record.
