Edited 6 months agoWell, after "Isaac Hayes" tried to keep things going with his "Hot Buttered Soul" ("HBS") Label, "Isaac" and his "Movement" (and "Hot Buttered Soul Unlimited"), tried again with the next offering "Juicy Fruit (Disco Freak)"....
I don't know, but I'm gonna try with this one....Actually the album is not bad...
The only thing that makes me go BLAH!!!!!, Is the opening "Title Track"....The opening 3 minute Dialogue is having "Ike" and "The Movement" going into a "Disco Tech" and getting with a so called "Disco Freak"...It sounds like a BAD episode of a '70's Cop Show!!!!! Once you get to the Song though, it's not that bad...The only thing that KILLS IT for me though is the Chorus...I'm sorry Guys, but this is not "Ike's" finest hour to me personally....
"Let's Don't Ever Blow Our Thing" helps the album get better....It has "Ike" getting back to doing what he does well, GREAT Slow Jams!!!! This has the PERFECT blend of that "Isaac Hayes Movement Arrangement" Melody, along with "Ike" and "Hot Buttered Soul Unlimited's" Vocal balance....Oh, yes, it's a Crown Jewel....
Now, "The Storm Is Over" is THE BOMB!!!! This Swing Time t has "Isaac" VERY FOCUS!!!! And with the Vocal assistance of "Hot Buttered Soul Unlimited", surrounded by that "Isaac Hayes Movement Arrangement" (and with "Ike" pulling out his Saxophone), it is an Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate Crown Jewel!!!!!
"Music To Make Love By" brings me back to the Movie Theater again...It's not bad, but at times, it sounds like "Ike" was trying TOO HARD here!!!! Thankfully, because of those "Isaac Hayes Movement Arrangements" and "Hot Buttered Soul Unlimited's" Vocals, it is STILL listenable....
"Thank You Love" goes back to a FOCUSED "Isaac Hayes"!!!! This Movie Theater sounding Crown Jewel, makes you appreciate what "Isaac" STILL brought to the table (at this point of his Career)....The Musical changes of those "Isaac Hayes Movement Arrangements" are FIRE!!!!!
"Lady Of The Night" has "Isaac" back into his Romantic self....Again, this Slow Jam Crown Jewel, is what "Ike" does BLINDFOLDED!!!!! The "The Memphis Strings" are the STARS here though!!!!
"Love Me Or Lose Me" ends this album on a Crown Jewel note...It seems like "Ike" (this time) visited "Philadelphia International Records" and blended some "Barry White" with it....Let's make no mistake though, this is a PURE GROOVY "Isaac Hayes Movement Arrangement"!!!!!
So I guess the only PROBLEM I have with this album was the SUPER CHEESY "Title Track", because the REST of the album is not BAD AT ALL!!!! Unfortunately though, this album didn't fair that well either...This also was REALLY starting to put a financial strain on "Ike" as well...Think about it, "Isaac" STILL was putting MORE money into his Productions, but getting VERY LITTLE revenue back!!!!!
So even though "Juicy Fruit (Disco Freak)" has gone down as the FORGOTTEN "Isaac Hayes" album, over the years it has resurfaced into Peoples hands (including mine)....In fact the "UPDATED" "Stax Records", Re-Issued it on CD in 2009....It's because of that, even though I am not a fan of the "Title Track", "Juicy Fruit (Disco Freak)" has been DISCOVERED by New Generations!!!!! -
I bet Isaac Hayes had lots of great fun shooting the front and back cover for this album, I wonder what he did with the bananas afterwards though!!
