Madonna – Hung Up (SDP's Extended Dub)

I first heard this dub being played by Stuart himself in June 2005 (Culture Club, Ghent). Didn't really know at that time that this was going to be the new Madonna song because it was all instrumental. But the crowd went mad on an Abba song so that was really a surpise. Anyway, that night he played a lot of promos like Missy Elliot and The Killers but I didn't see his version of 'Sweet Dreams' (Eurythmics) come out yet so watch out !

Hands down, the biggest dance track of '05; the fact that it's by Madonna is probably of no consequence either; the biggest irony here is that it's the Abba sample and the electrolicious galloping bassline that steal the show. Madonna herself finally puts herself to good use and shows us that that she still has a few aces up her sleeve by delivering some superb vocals; the lyrical subject matter is old-fashioned, but hey, this whole track is a nod to the days when discohopping was still considered decadent. On absolute first listen, I thought she was trying to emulate the recent Kylie Minogue sound (boy, times have changed) but it's clearly evident that Madonna has hung her own distinctive label on this. While the odds against Madonna not being able to pull herself back together after some dodgy efforts at 007 theme songs and political commentaries were high, 'Hung Up' and more importantly 'Confessions On A Dancefloor' truely prove it's extremely dangerous to underestimate a force like Madonna. Welcome back, Queen of Pop. 10/10

Not being a fan of either Madonna or ABBA, I have to it that I enjoy this track very, very much. One of those tunes you love for a couple of weeks and can't get enough of, then it starts to get really tiresome, and that's all there is to it. But it's fun while it lasts.

Never mind all the haters, this is a fantastic pop song that will surely be a HUGE hit around the world. The song is based around an ABBA sample and that sample works really well! One of the most (if not THE most) dancefloor friendly tunes from Madonna. Nice to see her coming up with something as great as THIS after the disappointing "American Life".
