This is a fine pressing and for pressing quality matches the so called Supervinyl of the one step. The truth is, as the 33's sides play out the performance advantage of the 1 Step simply grows and grows but this is the best 33 ive heard and it only gives away a little in bass and Caroles voice smoothness. This ones alot less expensive though! That being said the SACD cost me even less than both and i think its DSD layer beats the Mofi 33 and 45 vinyl editions anyway!

Just want to say thanks to all those who reviewed this MoFi pressing. It's as you described - not muffled. It's obvious from the first track. My other pressing of this LP is/was a disappointment.

Edited 9 months agoThe ONLY recording of this LP where the vocals don't sound like they're being sung under a wet blanket - which has been my primary gripe about this LP since forever. Really well mastered.

I am not getting the issues others are talking about on my (mid-range) system, I think it sounds wonderful, not perfect but wonderful nonetheless.

I’ve listened to several editions of this record (digitally, old Terra Haute Presses, and on CD) and this is definitely the best I have ever heard it sound. With that being said, I kind of see what others are saying. I wasn’t blown away by it per-say in the sense I was hoping it would be earth-shattering, but I think rather this is just how the record is supposed to sound to a general audience. I have midrange equipment (all pieces have been in the $200-$300 range) and the bass comes through clearly, Carole’s voice is very nice to listen to and has a slight echo I’ve never heard on other editions, and the instruments are clear to make out. However, there is slight surface noise (could totally be my setup and not the fault of the record), and as others have said sometimes her voice is a little bit behind the instruments. With that being said, I think for fifty dollars this is well worth it. I read a review on a different site that gave this pressing an 8.8 and I think that’s a perfectly valid and reflective score. The gave the super disc edition a 9.6 so you really have to ask yourself, “do I want to spend double to get a 10% upgrade?” For me, this is press is great and will be the way I listen to this album from now on, fifty well spent.

Edited one year agoUpon initially listening to the MFSL 33 a few years ago, I was left feeling underwhelmed. Perhaps I had set my expectations too high, given the recording's inherent simplicity and slight distortion. I figured it is what it is, the Sony legacy CD shared a similar sonic profile.
Recently, I found my Classic Records pressing and decided to compare it to the MFSL. Not expecting too much difference, but I was pleasantly surprised. The Classic recording proved to be far superior. It possessed a vibrant, organic quality that flowed effortlessly, imbuing the music with depth and punch. In contrast, the MFSL 33 struck me as flat and uninspired. It exhibited a lack of sparkle and depth, failing to match the Classic's captivating sonic signature.
For those seeking a clean, decent-sounding pressing of this timeless album, the MFSL 33 may suffice. However, audiophiles seeking the ultimate pressing should look elsewhere.
I also own the MFSL one-step 45 pressing, which remains unopened. It was an impulse Fomo purchase, not sure if should open it.

This is one of my favorite pop/rock albums of all time. This is the kind of album that doesn't have any bad songs.
Regarding the mastering. Am I the only one who noticed that the bass drum is very dominant? Especially at - so far away I noticed my living room start to shake! -
A mostly excellent presentation of an absolute, albeit flawed, classic. MoFi really made the most of the source material. My only complaint would be the inner groove distortion on the B side. Other than that, incredible!

Edited 3 months agoI love the sound of this pressing. KW's mastering brings out every detail in the recording. The sound is beautifully present and dynamic. The vinyl itself is super quiet, and my copy is translucent. The gatefold is of suitably high-quality. If you can hear "Way Over Yonder" and not cry your eyes out, then you have no soul. My one tiny gripe is some intrusive vocal distortion on the last two tracks of side 2, but I'm not sure that's unique to this pressing. If anything, the MoFi presentation likely brings out some limitations of the recording equipment available at the time. Stellar version of one of my all-time favorite albums. 10/10

I think MoFi did a fantastic job with a sub-optimal original recording to bring out the best, widen the soundstage, and improve the clarity. I got this for my wife who’s a fan, and we have an original pressing as well to A/B with and this is clearly superior. Also dead quiet wax. I was worried that I should have splurged for the 45rpm one step but I think for 1/3 of the cost you’re getting (I have to imagine) 95% of the goods.
