Edited 19 years agoTiamat is known as one of the bands that never wanted to stick with just one genre and Wildhoney is one of the examples of their mutation from metal band to something completely different. Wildhoney is heavily peppered with instrumentals (intriguing, but somewhat pointless ones, in my opinion) and album is culminating in Pink Floyd-ish epic "A Pocket Size Sun" apparently based on to druggy visions of band leader Johan Edlund. There's also a ballad called "Do You Dream Of Me" as well as something really sinister in the form of lyrics to song "Ar" (quote: The five pointed grey star carven/ The sign of the Aryan race).
All of those elements were never used before by Tiamat, so its logical to talk about a serious sense of progression, which further continued with their next record "A Deeper Kind of Slumber." With time however, they abandoned any sort of experimentation, but Wildhoney stands as one of their boldest attemps at trying hand in genres other than heavy metal.
