Hiss first step into the world of album covers was when he was asked to paint a cover for the group Tiamat's debut album. He was then active in the death metal band Grotesque. When Grotesque split up, the group At the Gates was eventually formed, whose album Slaughter of the Soul had a cover he painted. Dissection, who shared rehearsal space with At the Gates, also had their covers painted by Wåhlin. In 1995, Kristian Wåhlin started the band Diabolique. He has his studio in Höganäs.
