Absolute masterpiece, this is what people who lived with Faith and Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers, could expect for the best

Edited 6 months agoThe album is not exactly great, but there are a few gems. Unfortunately, the music was once again ruined by excessive compression. It's impossible to listen to it without having a gag reflex. Into the garbage can.
Maybe the days when natural sounding CDs were recorded will yet return.
ps.
Let's stop buying new CD releases, maybe it will make a change.
+😊I acquired RIP LP 7503682 () Half Speed Master in 192kHz FLAC format. What a relief, it is now possible to listen to it with pleasure.

Edited 6 months agoAn album full of great songs completely destroyed by its production: loudness compression, nasty distortion and the application of all kinds of gimmick tricks to create an incredible sound stage where everything is everywhere at the same time, and no where in particular at all. Simply awful on my Hifi system, and a total horror when played over a JBL Flip 6 Bluetooth speaker, which of course does some extra processing on top of the already over-the-top production of this album, making matters worse.
I ripped the CD, loaded the files into Audacity, applied the 'narrow stereo' effect as well as attenuating the treble a bit, and that did change to the sound to a tolerable level, although it is still far from anything decent.
I hope that one day, in an future where it becomes fashionable (read:profitable) to create pre-1990 high-dynamic-range style masters again, that this album will be remixed and remastered properly and take the glory of this music to a level it deserves. Now it's giving me headaches.
ETA Nov. 17th: I also bought the cassette version, which sounds way more tolerable, my review of that is over here:
