Edited 10 months agoOrdered this directly from QOTSA website. Discs are flat and came super clean.
This is better than the recent original artwork single LP reissue. I had the orange vinyl and sold it next day. The one LP had more sibilances, distortion and sounded muffled/compressed. I preferred listening on streaming to the one LP reissue.
When I compare this 2 LP reissue with streaming, the soundstage and separation is better. Overall fidelity is better than what’s on Spotify/Qobuz. Bass guitar has more definition.
However, brickwalled sound is still evident in almost all the songs and the treble is at times hard to tame. The mid range could’ve been much better. As a result, the sound of the record is still overall thin and lacks the rawness (i.e sounds sterile for its nature).
I suspect the source is the issue here. Chris Bellman is one of the best in the industry so he probably tried to master it the best he could.
I would really appreciate it if someone could compare this with the 2010/2011 2 LP reissue. I am wondering if it is worth getting that.

It sounds SO FUKCN GOOD! The center holes are tight so it would be nice for QA to check prior to pressing. QOTSA ROCKS

Sounds wonderful, but why oh WHY can't center holes be drilled to the correct size for our record players? Seems with all new releases nowadays, one has to deal with warping or tight center holes or both. For what we're paying, we deserve better.

Edited 11 months agoI seem to be one of the few disappointed by this. Just sounds dull, flat, and lifeless. Received 3 other records via UPS the same day. Played all back to back. The other 3 sounded fine to me, but this just fell flat. When cranked, vocals and top end became harsh... had to put amp into SET mode just to bear it (usually listen in ultralinear mode). Threw on an OG copy of SFTD right after and it was leagues better dynamically.

Sounds the best I’ve heard it. Rogue Audio separates and Martin Logan XTF100 speakers. This double LP was cut by Chris Bellman! The soundstage, bass, and separation of instruments is the best I’ve heard it. Chris Bellman is my favorite Vinyl cutting engineer, and he didn’t disappoint here.

Found this while perusing my local record store and was overjoyed to see that not only is it the complete album, but also an official repress (and on two LPs!). Both LPs are flat and quiet. My only problem is that the bass sounds a little weird sometimes when the loudness dial is below 50%, but this album wasn’t meant for low volume anyway. I’m just so happy to have an official release of the full album.
