Tone Poets... Disappointing strong stereo seperation: most brass and piano on one channel only, to my ears it sounds anachronistic for 1969. But hey, maybe it's meant to show, what schizophrenia is about?

Nothing is more satisfying than buying a record you've never heard and instantly loving every minute of it while listening to it. This is that record. I was lucky and got it on Universal's half off sale recently for $13. Score!

Edited one year agoIn my top 5 of the Tone Poets (I have about 38 releases). Fantastic music. Amazing mastering of a fantastic recording. Shorter and RVG at their peak. Usual superb KPG mastering. Pressing perfectly flat and virtually noise free.

Edited one year agoAn amazing Shorter work. One of his best achievements in his career as leading player and composer. All musicians deliver greatly to his 5 compositions. Spaulding‘s is nonetheless a real treat. The sound has great air, stage and depth (track depending). Imo, Music and Sound are a top ranking 5 stars. Pressing quality lacks reasonable record flatness (increasingly with TPs these days) and record had an unwanted pressing/handling residue on B2 distorting play. Innersleeve cramped. Mediocre pressings are for me only a 3. Thus, in total a strong 4 starer.

Bit of crackle between compositions A1&2, heard also twice for a sec on side B.2 perhaps a pop 2nd time.
My clamp had flattened vinyl to near enough 99.9%.
Factory scuffs on vinyl.
Very impressed with presentation and packaging-not sure if identical to music matters in weight - seems so on first glance, chuffed to have bought this as on wants list for decades! Sound reproduction/mastering on point too as expected from KG. -
I held off this...and then got completely consumed! It's beautiful, stunning. One of my favourite Tone poets. Beautifully made, flawless!!!!!¡

Really enjoying this album. Got my copy direct from Blue Note; pressing is flat and quality is terrific, no surface noise.

Anyone compare this to the KPG cut on the VMP Blue Note boxset? Curious if this is entirely new cut or the same masters? (Comparing the discog pages suggests entirely new matrix and barcode...).
