Edited 2 months agoGreat sound on this but I have not compared to my original DJM UK which I have always liked. Pressed well and no noise. I could do without the swirl discs but does not detract from the product in my eyes. Nice to have some outtakes. This album and Honky Chateau are personal favorites. A good buy but hard to find and getting pricey.

Horrible looking platters. Is there a CD edition in the pipeline?
Most of the 70s classics have been issued as Deluxe or Anniversary editions.
I have them all on CD and vinyl up to 1991.
The CD editions make more sense to me as new vinyl sounds terrible. -
My grandmother gave me this LP for my 12th birthday! It never sounded this good, or looked this good! Full on glossy cover as Elton always wanted and intended for the U.S. version, which it never had. He also wasn't thrilled with gluing the book in, so that is another original touch from the original DJM (UK) issue. I think this is a fantastic release!! Clean, quiet vinyl. Demos are great and interesting as they are almost deconstructionist at times. "Jack Rabbit" demo was a revelation and hysterical too! Digital would be a nice plus. Especially at 24bit.

Ridiculously priced. I don't like marbled / coloured vinyl as a principle. The booklet is not internally attached as the initial releases were which is very disappointing - as indeed was the lack of the pocket insert tongue on the recent Honky Chateau issues. No additional detail is given of the second disc content, no notes, no mastering details. No digital . For the nigh on sixty quid this cost, I find it a great anticlimax.

I balked a bit at the asking price (even before all the post-RSD price gouging even from so-called "reputable" stores) but am glad I went for it. Vinyl looks and (mostly - bit of crackle on one disc) sounds great. The extra disc of demos etc is excellent. Nice gatefold and book presentation. It seems ridiculous to limit this to 4000 copies worldwide but hopefully a black vinyl version (similar to that issued for Honky Chateau) will be released later this year for those who missed out.

Extremely pleased with this release, the vinyl is dead quiet and flat.
In of sound quality, I would note that everything is nicely balanced, both the treble and bass are absolutely fine. -
Do anyone know if this going to have a regular black vinyl 2 LP release? Like Honky Chateau has.
Scalpers already hogged all the copies, and also I don't like how this particular splatter coloured vinyl looks. -
Compared to a NM original: https://discogs.sitiosdesbloqueados.info/release/10544893-Elton-John-Dont-Shoot-Me-Im-Only-The-Piano-Player
This is bombastic and in-your-face, so is the original. Where this release wins is in the crystal clear pressing quality (after a cleaning, was dusty out of the sleeve) and level of detail. Would not be surprised if this is from a digital source since it is not d as anything else, but sounds as good as this record is likely ever going to sound this side of an Analogue Productions EJ series. Worth every penny. -
I waited two hours in line and I am very happy I was able to get this release. My record store had only 2 copies (even though it is one of the biggest record stores in my country!). Retail price was 55 euros here. I live in The Netherlands.

Bummed about missing out on this. Local record store did ‘t have it and had the proper price of $40. Online sellers trying to sell for $50 smfh
