First, John Mayer is a pure talent. This is one hell of a debut album with absolute bangers. It’s a wonderful from beginning to end. Now the pressing, agreed it’s a low volume master. But I’m glad I waited to review after upgrading my player to a Fluance 85. My older audio technic players just couldn’t track it properly, giving high distortion starting at the middle of the side. I’m sure the stylus was not aligned properly but by new player tracks it spot on till the end. Better than some others in my collection that have much shorter lengths. I’m assuming this record may be a DMM press but idk So everything said, I give this my highest recommendation!

I am going to agree and disagree with the critique below. First things first, make sure you are rating this pressing and not the pressing done at United. I am rating the sterling press….

Sound- it’s not the loudest and it benefits from that. You will have to turn the volume up a touch, but it is a nice master with some great sounding low end. Respect for the master and the sound on vinyl: great separation of instruments.

The actual press: noisy, some definite cracks and pops. Playing this with a 740ML, that said, it’s not a horror show like some have described. It isn’t great though. Also, the record looked filthy when I pulled it out….

My copy is an original 2001. It sounds fantastic. Warm with a soft balanced soundstage that have the instruments right in front of you. Additionally, a flat, no noise pressing.

This is a winner all around.
        Period.

Sounds fine. It’s not great, you’re not going to be blown away, but it’s a great album and the pressing is fine. Just don’t over pay. It’s not THAT good of a press. Running under a Soundsmith cart to Bowers.

I think people make up these nonsense posts to try and affect the prices.

            My copy sounds just fine.

Same here, i have 1st pressing and perfect sound. Bouwers&Wilkins speakers with Marantz recever. Sound perfect clear and nice.

I put off buying this for years due to comments on here. Got it for cheap and IMO it's not nearly as bad as a lot are making it out to be. Is it quiet? Yes. Does it sound better than able if you turn up your system? Yes. Would it benefit from a 2 LP pressing? Sure. Is it worth <$20? Yup. Far from the worst sounding record in my collection.

This is an absolute dumpster fire of a pressing. The edge of the record is uneven with heavy skipping on Side A track one. Visually I can see tons of pressing flaws even though it was bought sealed. Sounds like garbage too. Avoid, avoid, avoid!!!

It's definitely a very quiet pressing (I have to turn it up way more than my other records) but no pops/clicks anything so I can deal with it okay
