Sophisticated, intelligent, inspired by the ghosts of the past and pushing for innovation for the future. I dig Kamasi. Fists of Fury and Street Fighter Mas, nods to martial arts, the arts, and nostalgic video games. He tries too hard in some areas but I enjoyed his projects and work with Throttle Elevator. The packaging on this was ambitious but fun. Playback is flat as another reviewer mentioned but hasn't prevented multiple spins with help of an EQ. Recommend.

Edited 22 days agoThis is the most infuriatingly ill conceived packaging I have ever dealt with on a vinyl record. I love Kamasi but if I had known about the horrid process of freeing the fifth vinyl or just how little thought was given to the protection of the actual records instead of looking flashy, then I just would have streamed this and never bought it. It's hard to call something you love a waste of money but this may qualify.

Edited one year agoThe vinyl "looks" terrible. However, i have few tics or pops on my pressing (except for side two of the EP which has quite a few loud pops). Music very enjoyable and sounds above average on my rig.

All packaging ideas. Low quality vinyl. Pie sound. Too much pomp and circumstance and not enough focus on quality sound
-
"Beautiful packaging," I thought to myself as I opened the first four discs of this release. Then the sleeve was down from M to VG+ by the time I got the 5th "hidden" disc out by cutting through the perforation. Fail, and no reason for it. His follow-up release "The Epic," is more sensibly packaged.
-
'Flat' SQ, some background surface noise. The choral sections sound really compressed and distorted at times. The hidden EP is a pain, even getting it out to listen to you need to grab it with your fingers (no inner sleeve), thereby adding finger smudges to the dust and paper fibres that are on every LP in this set due to the poor inner sleeve quality.

Edited 5 years agoWhy bother getting the vinyl cut at Masterdisk and then pressing at Rainbo?
Euro version pressed at Optimal is the one to go for... -
Pressing quality is ok here. There is some surface noice - but it's acceptable. SQ and dynamics are fine. Had to use a knive to open the sleeve for the 5th record...is that a production failure?
