I lucked into a sealed copy of this recently, and boy, this thing smokes. I'll listen to anything Patrice Rushen is on, though. Really glad it's getting a reissue!

Edited 7 months agoI bought this without having heard it - I was familiar with the title and the lineup of players, but none of the tunes. Upon listening, I can confirm that this is a ridiculously good fusion LP. Takes the best parts of "Headhunters" and Eddie Henderson's "Heritage" and melds them together. As others have noted, Patrice Rushen stars in her role here, but everyone brought their A-game - Paul Jackson is on fire, Eddie sounds great, and Bennie astounds on four different instruments. The compositions are great, the playing is great, the engineering and mixing is great. I think this is a must-have, and would be a great candidate for a Jazz Dispensary reissue if they were able to obtain the rights.

If you are interested in jazz-funk and jazz fusion sound of late 70s, then give it a try. It will not disappoint. Nice movements between more funk rooted sound and fusion sound that escapes strict definitions. Certainly, there is a charm in it. My favorites are "It Remains To Be Seen", and "Water Torture".

Superb album from 1977, a really interesting time in music. Post Headhunters era with lush production. Every time I listen to this record I hear new things, the line up is awesome and the vibe beautiful. Glad I got this album a while ago as it's expensive to obtain unless you're really lucky.
