Wake up vinyl lovers , if your records cackle or hiss or pop clean your stylus or replace the stylus with a decent diamond head.

Although I dislike coloured vinyl due to their loss of sound and durability (at least that’s what I experiencing) this white vinyl sounds surprisingly good and doesn’t crackle like a campfire even after extensive use.

Very well balanced and nothing is missing sound wise. Low ends are nice and powerful, highs are clean and crisp. No distortion, no issues whatsoever (Nagaoka MP110 pick-up on 1210mk II)

BTW folks. Stop sending records back and forth because of a minor scratch.. back in the day, one would be happy to get a record at all.. often there was no way to exchange it after played once..

I’m sometimes under the impression that folks treat it like a race for the best possible pressing and flawless procured product.. get a CD if you cannot bear the issues of vinyl.

My copy plays surprisingly fine given the comments in here. It’s dynamic, the bass is pumping and it has very low distortion (something I hear on all my PSB records, especially on Neil’s voice).

It’s my absolutely favourite late career PSB record. The production is sharp and the really silly songs hit the mark for me.

This is very hard for me to say but possibly my most disappointing pressing ever. I was so so excited to get a hold in this album in vinyl so I ordered a copy from Amazon.de and once it came I noticed that the entire first track (one of my favorite record openers ever) was absurdly ruined by having it skipping every second, excessively noise... I was upset enough for amazon to refund me and still letting me keep it. Most of the sounds actually sound pretty great but for me to start the album with a forced "skip" is a big no.

I guess I was one of the lucky ones. Ordered from Amazon and held my breath as I listened through the entire album. My pressing sounds fantastic really. Low noise floor, super dynamics, all frequencies are clear with no distortion. There is a very quiet surface noise I noticed for a couple seconds (probably static). It's negligible considering the shape of some new vinyl that comes out. I always order from Amazon when I'm not sure about a pressing as their return policy is hassle-free.

bought it when it was first released [pre ordered] and the vinyl sounds perfect, no surface noise. I must have got lucky :)

I went through three copies before giving up. My US pressing from Concord Music Group has excessive surface noise and non-fill distortion on both sides. This is an overall poor pressing. The mastering also sounds overly compressed and lacks in dynamics and a clear sound stage. This may be a case where you're better off with the CD.

So...for the most part there are copies of this out there that do sound good, but has anyone come across one without IGD and a general loss of top-end during B6? It's enough to be a significant distraction from the music during at least the "clouds floating by" age that should be the climax of the album, and the "no one will ever know" coda. I've had four copies of the album and a couple of replacement styli through my hands since this record was released so I'm pretty sure it's a widespread pressing defect, not a one-off or a problem with my system (my hundreds of other records by and large aren't affected). I'm just holding out for a repress as it's maybe my favourite PSB song of the decade. :(
