Nik Kershaw – The Riddle

This is probably written somewhere already. I am noting that the original UK version or all non-U.S. versions seemingly have a different track order to the songs than the U.S. release. Additionally, the U.S. release does not have City of Angels on it. Instead, on Side 2 track one, Wouldn't It Be Good is included (but not on the UK or non-U.S. releases).

Mr. Kershaw attracted criticism at the time of the release of this edition, as the vocals on the live tracks 'Know How', 'Wild Horses' and 'You Might' were actually re-recorded in the studio. He claimed the actual live vocals were too dodgy to use, owing to his using a newfangled (at least in 1984) head mic.

the tape transfer on this newly remastered version contains some noise artifacts (probably from baking the tapes before re-transferring) NOT present on the original CD pressing of the album from 1984 (ref: German pressing)
Most notibly in the fade in of The Riddle, you can hear the noisy tape going over the tape recorder head.

This albums should be the second on the list of his albums, it should be under Human Racing...not above it. This is his second album, since Human Racing is his debut (first) album.

This album is about to make my all time top 10. The mix of craftmanship with top of the pops accessability is astounding, if anybody wanted Weather Report done 80's style this is it, the perfect pop-fusion album.

Phew! What to say... "Don Quixote", "Wild Horses", "Wide Boy" and the titlesong "The Riddle".....what a load!!!! A perfect example of 80's pop. Great melodies, still alive, still exciting. Very good pop record.
