A stunningly beautiful collection of early 90's ambient grooves from the golden era! Not a single weak track to be found here. Back finally into my collection again on vinyl (sold it to help get my deposit for my house) and staying there! Picked up for a very reasonable price in top condition too. Now to find Volume 2!! -
Edited 2 years ago'File Under Ambient' finally has been filed under ambient - just a moment ago. I already have some of the songs on 12" , but this compilation just could not fail in my collection, it's a must have. Leading ambient music from early 90's - every tune on it is a hit.

i've got it on vinyl and CD, bought them both back in the day when they were first released, back then it was Intelligent Universe and X-tal that first caught my ears, a classic compilation. -

R&S set up ambient sub-label Apollo in 1992 with the first release being Aphex Twin's first album Selected Ambient Works 85-92. This comp features Model 500's "The age", which is well suited as an alternative soundtrack to 2001: A Space Odyssey. -
true to be one of the best ambeint chill out lps of the 90s my one is a bit batterd but still plays ok my only regret is that i didnt buy another copy. ahead of its time i love every song

Phenomenal collection of music from the early 90's. This compilation proves very concretely that this was a superb era of creative and deeply emotional music making. The more celebrated names contributing speak for themselves, and their offerings are as excellent as you would expect. The less well known names also contribute some immenses tracks, with David Morley's "Calibration" being a particular favourite of mine. This is a record to be cherished if you like your music to expand your mind in a very good trippy way. Huge.

Here was displayed for the first time the many variants of IDM, showing that there was much more to Ambient than just atmospheric instrumental tracks : from the deep moody electronica of david Morley or Biosphere, to the dub-influenced collages of the Orb's remix of Electrotete, and the detroit techno of Model 500 at its most subtle, every track here is a gem, making it an unrivalled release. Opens your ears, refreshes your mind. -
Officially the release was titled Apollo 1 (check the old R&S/Apollo site as reference), but because of the sticker and lack of a true visible name on the cd/record, it was later known as the "File Under Ambient" comp.
