Kyuss – Welcome To Sky Valley

I own only a few perfect records that will play cleanly and perfectly even on my cheapskate stereo setup. This is pretty damn close, especially given the fuzzed out sound of the band that doesn't exactly lend itself to clearly defined separation of the instruments. Nevertheless, you get the full panoramic soundscape of "Sky Valley" here.

Is it "quiet" as some have commented here? I wouldn't know, I'm not sure who the hell listens to Kyuss at low volumes.

Kind of quiet have to turn up the Amp to a level where the walls should be shaking

Have to agree this is a quiet press, definitely one that needs to be cranked. John’s vocals could be a little louder in the mix. My copy plays clean and free of any distracting surface noise. Only real caveat is that the jacket and lined inner sleeve were seam split but it’s not a dealbreaker. This will do until Rhino one day potentially press double LPs of this, Blues for the Red Sun and Circus!

I can't complain about it sounding "muddy" - that's kinda just how the album is - but the drums sound totally lifeless and tinny. Overall it feels like an incredibly half-assed cash grab, particularly with the mention of Nick Oliveri on the hype sticker despite Scott Reeder being the bass player on this album, not Nick. I know the vinyl for this album has always been rather barebones, with no liner notes or printed inner sleeve, but I feel like they could have put some effort into making the packaging more interesting if they were going to shaft the music itself. The record is housed in an anti-static sleeve at least. Regardless, WMG has been treating this band and its fans rather poorly.

Great tape! Sounds good to me on my system. Found my copy on Mercari of all places for 30 dollars which seems to be about what it normally goes for now. Pleased to have a Josh Homme project on tape too!

I just got my copy and it sounds disgusting. The sound is muddy and lifeless :(

How to differentiate this release from the similar 2008 release (which also has Kyuss not touching the power lines)? They are exactly the same (ignoring the sticker). If someone knows I am curious. My used copy weights about 180g so I thought I had the latest 2008 release but reading the notes of this 1999 release, it also mentions 180g so I am confused. Anyone knows? Thanks in advance
