Notes
New Order's sixth studio album, appearing four years after Technique.
Factory assigned the catalogue number FACT 300 to the album but it was released on London Records only after the demise of Factory. Traces about the former partnership gone bitter are found on tracks like Ruined In A Day and Liar.
The album is often considered being an economic necessity as New Order have lost large amounts of money because of the deal with Factory Records and their involvement with the Hacienda.
Additionally, the tensions within the band made this “a very, very unpleasant record to make" (according to drummer Stephen Morris), and subsequently the band went into a hiatus for eight years soon after the release.

A limited edition version was released in the US. It has the same tracklisting but an entirely different packaging (a folding wallet made of bright orange vinyl instead of a jewel case) and CD label.

Another PDO disc in my collection that has suffered from disc rot and now won't play certain tracks correctly :( Avoid this one -

To my ears this sounds quite good, you have to raise the volume a bit but the dynamics and details are clear, in my opinion this is a better sounding pressing than the "colder" later reissue. -
Edited 2 years agoGood pressing, balanced, no distortion, decent bass, and no surface noise. And I'll never understand the hate this album gets: an OK effort, clearly inferior to Technique but with some really strong songs (the first 4) provided that you like the more "dancey" side of New Order.

Can anyone comment on the sound quality between the original 1993 LP and the Rhino re-issue? I find the Rhino to be quit good, unlike their Technique re-issue. -
You never know what pressing you will get from Amazon, but this album sounds fantastic. Nice deep bass, crisp treble, no background noise.

My copy of this makes my needle jump like crazy on the B side, I think it wasn't mastered very well. -
Edited 4 months agoVinyl is ok, maybe a little low decibel wise throughout. -
Sounds fine, got it from Amazon US but says made in Europe. Sound levels and quality varies from track to track on the included digital , no idea what the source was. Opening track is booming, then the rest sound dead quiet.

Mine sounds fine, no pops or clicks not mind blowing but satisfactory and an improvement on the digital versions. code was missing though.
