Less than a year on from writing one of synthpop's greatest "head-over-heels" love songs, New Order came up with one of its greatest break-up songs. Originally recorded for the movie soundtrack "Salvation!" (the film being produced by Michael Shamberg, the man responsible for many of New Order's distinctive promo clips), "Touched By The Hand Of God" was made more dancefloor-friendly for single release and the result was another classic 12", this one with a bit of a disco feel to it, but unmistakeably New Order. I've never seen the full-length version compiled anywhere, but would definitely rate it a "must-have" item for NO fans, well worth putting in the effort to seek out the original single.
