John Coltrane Quartet* – Crescent

Agree wth all, I just bought a second copy because mine had a few pops and ticks on it. This really is a masterpiece. 🤓

I'm wondering the same thing as below ... the same mastering and pressing plates as the acoustic sounds or is this something different? I'm enjoying all the other acoustic sounds very much and I've always been very fond of this LP...

These reissues predate the Great Vinyl Revival, but they were thick on the ground when they were reissuing them, I know I have A Love Supreme from this run, and a few others and they all sound pretty stellar... (kick myself for not getting a copy of Stellar Regions LOL)... definitely beat the indifferently pressed MCA 70s 80s issues, which often came in single sleeves and not gatefolds. I think this album is definitely overshadowed by A Love Supreme, maybe you could consider it a transitional record but I think it's certainly underrated. I see there is an acoustic sounds reissue, I may have to grab that too simply because I like this LP so much, like to see how THAT remaster sounds, it's almost 30 years since they did this series of vinyl pressings. Unlike the 80s OJC vinyl, the Impulse catalog was not particularly well served on MCA era vinyl, poor quality vinyl and indifferent mastering at best.

Has anyone compared this to the Bernie Grundman 2x45 rpm Vinyl LP 2009?

I have a couple of these ‘74 abc reissues and I’m always curious how ppl think they stand up sound wise.

Is there a more majestic, more spiritually stirring, track in the jazz canon than “Wise One”? I doubt it.

Great budget reissue if you don’t need to have a RVG stamped copy or can’t find a clean original. All of the instruments sound fantastic. Cool bass and drum solos on Side 2.

Who did the mastering here? And how does it compare to the reissue from the Acoustic Sounds Series?

I usually like the impulse master sessions and this is good but the “originals” version from the 2000s is better

My copy starts abruptly a few seconds in for some reason.. otherwise pressing sounds great
