Notes
The second Sisters of Mercy album, released November 1987. It reached #7 on the UK album charts, and three hit singles were released from it: Lucretia My Reflection (June 1988, #20).
The band lineup on 'Floodland' was nominally Andrew Eldritch and Patricia Morrison. The songs were written by Eldritch alone, and Morrison is not credited on the sleeve artwork, except in the 'thank you' list (under her real name, [Patricia] Anne Rainone). Morrison's musical contribution has been disputed, but she was vital to the band's image during this period.
The album differs in its vinyl and CD versions. The CD features the full-length mixes of 'This Corrosion' (10:55) and 'Driven Like The Snow' (6:27). On the vinyl version, 'This Corrosion' fades out at 9:16, and 'Driven Like The Snow' is a different mix, lasting 4:39. Many CD versions add 'Torch' and 'Colours' (B-sides from the 'This Corrosion' single) as bonus tracks. (On cassette, 'Torch' alone is added, at the end of side one.) According to Eldritch, these were 'supposed to be removed after the first pressing', and 'don't belong to the album'.

So I just picked this up from MoFi (#012730). Sound is pretty phenomenal, flat and with little to no surface noise. Definitely sounds different than my OG copy but in a good way. I agree this mix is softer but more dynamic. Excellent soundscape. Definitely worth picking up.

It's a nice pressing and worth the price. I'd pay up to £40 for it, although I paid £25. It's not as nice as an original but still great. I really don't care about the coloured vinyl part. It's really nicely done, though. My only criticisms are that it doesn't come with a poly lined sleeve and it needed a clean. Other than that, it's a nice version.

Edited 4 months agoNo problem with this record. Maybe a bit more volume for it to come alive. That does the trick...

Edited 4 months agoHot metal and methedrine!. Don't listen to the negative reviews on discogs. This pressing sounds great. Yes it requires an increase in volume of about 3-5 dB because there is 50 min. of music on one disc. However, the mastering is exquisite. Wide sound stage and great dynamics. The vinyl itself is dead quiet, no surface noise whatsoever.

This pressing has one of my favorite color mixes, with it being pure eye-candy to look at. Although, the pressing quality is more rough on this one when compared to Mo-Fi and CD releases. It can sound flat, weak, and crumby at some parts, but it still manages to hold up throughout. I would recommend getting the Mo-Fi if you care about quality, but if the color scheme and chance of getting a nicer copy interest you enough, get this. 80/100

Not very good copy. Starts ok, but high frequency "sand" is popping out here and there. Most notable examples are second half of Dominion/Mother Russia and first part of Flood I. B-side starts with irritating clicks in the right channel. Bought sealed in local store for ~28 bucks. Not best 28 bucks spent...

I think it's tough to compare this to the MoFi version for sound quality. You are not really comparing the same recording as the MoFi is a different version of the album. It's considered the "rough mix" and is not quite the same release.
This one sounds nice on my system but I don't have anything other than the MoFi and cd releases to compare it too

I compared this issue with the 5 other editions I have in my collection: EU 1st 1987, EU 2nd 1987, Japan 1988, US MoFi 2013, EU Remaster 2015. This is by far the weakest sounding issue, both in of sound and pressing quality. Sounds thin, lifeless and compressed. The japanese pressing remains the holy grail, followed by the EU originals. The MoFi version doesn’t sound much better than this one.
