Edited one month agoJust received this. Nearly identical thoughts with my "Dire Straits" SYEOR review. Copy acquired in Apr 2025 by Amazon.ca. My copy does NOT come with a SYEOR sticker. It is a good and relatively quiet pressing but not a great one. While the cut by Bernie Grudman is great, the pressing could be better. Minus one star for the cheap matte print quality, which on my copy is "Printed in Canada". Overall very good but not great, but it's also affordable so...

Edited 2 months agoPromo stamp copy. I like this better than the Bernie and I really like the Bernie. Haven’t heard good things about the MOFi vinyl but I only have the SACD of that which is decent if not top notch. This one has the “wow factor”. When I started listening to the first couple songs I stayed hyper focused and into it and continued to the end. Really enjoyed a couple songs I don’t love but sounded so good I was into them, too. I read other reviews that stated this did not have enough bottom end. Not the case with mine and my primary system which tends to be a little shy in producing bass so I would be able to tell the difference easily. As the prior reviewer stated very balanced and “crankable”, but also clearer that my others for this album. My go to copy now.

I want to go 4.5 stars lol. I was previously a bit critical of this but then I need to that I am comparing this against their other stuff on first presses which are more dynamic.
It’s good, but it deserved to be better than that. I don’t think mastering should be subjective, it should be signed off by the artist & I assume this ‘was’ which surprises me.
But…….. that said, I wouldn’t be without it lol, I just adjust Mr. Accuphase slightly & the detail comes through. -

Not favorite Dire Straits album as a whole but dang Side A is hard to beat with the 1-2 punch of the first two cuts. But even at their lowest ranked it beats most best! My pressing sounds great per usual with my Dire Straits’ albums. Highly recommended! -

I bought this "made in " EU version new last week, but I'm returning it. Surface noise is unbearable, what a poor quality vinyl. In the quiet ages the crackling drowns out the music, which degrades the listening experience, of what should be a special edition, to the level of a worn out 80s LP. When starting the second song "Romeo And Juliet" I turned the record off after 1 minute and put it back in the sleeve.
On both sides of the LP there are also stains (fingerprints), as if someone in the factory had slid it into the sleeve with their bare hands. The record is also full of bits of the production and has been slid into a cardboard inner sleeve, without an antistatic inner layer, that is really not of todays standards anymore and certainly not for a special edition. What should have led to euphoria at first, turned into a downright disappointment. Never received such a bad LP, which I had to return.
My 1984 CD release of this album and even the 1980 UK cassette are much more pleasant to listen to, even if not a half speed remaster. -

These first early pressings of dire straits are so dynamic and punchy…..they are in my opinion more alive than the MOFIs…wish I I realised this before buying them all 🤣 -
This pressing sounds fantastic. Flawless. DS are known for incredible production and mastering and this release does not disappoint.

I thought this issue was fantastic …. Until I bought a NM OG …… the MoFi now sounds like shit …. I have learned one very important thing about vinyl records …. A quality record was mastered perfectly in the first place - “remastering” is bullshit … you can’t improve on perfection. A clean, well pressed, well looked after original will always destroy a digital remaster …..

Bought brand new sealed from Amazon. The record is pretty flat and well centered. Packaging is quite simple, but it's Ok. Pressing quality is surprisingly good for 40 CAD, my copy is dead silent. Mixing is quite soft, the drums are a bit laidback in the mix, but the presentation is pretty airy with decent dynamics. It remains me a bit MoFi's presentation in that enjoyable and airy way... Not bad at all. 4.75 / 5
