Great sounding LP, with a nice wide soundstage & whisper-quiet vinyl as well. -

I own the runout variant 1. Looks like a 1970s repress. I also own a 1960s German pressing which sounds fuller in the mids compared to this one. -

Beethoven and Karajan needs no introduction……
One of the most impressive recordings of Beethoven’s 5th, the first four notes are played rapidly and with gusto….very impressive energetic performance. What I enjoyed the most about this 1962 recording is the clarity, precise sound, and amazing sound stage. This record is a must to classical music lovers.

Really excellent version. If you can get hold of a good copy of the vinyl then the sound is really good.
-
FFSS stands for Full Frequency Stereo Sound and refers to a recording system not a disc-cutting process. The German standard for stereo discs DIN 45547 (1962) recommends the same disc-cutting time constants (75, 318 and 3180 microseconds) as the RIAA standard. Test discs produced by Deutsche Grammophon were cut according to RIAA norms.
-
This LP is pressed with Decca (FFSS) EQ curve; in order to hear the full glory of this LP, it is best to use the Decca EQ curve on the photo amplifier to replay it. If one uses the standard RIAA EQ curve to replay it, the whole scale and weight of the full Orchestra will not be there and the sound stage collapsed to a single 2 dimension presentation.
