I've seen these letters on A&M and related labels, but I haven't seen anything about them.
Does anyone know what they stand for? I assume it's the pressing plant numbers like on Polydor related label or the pressing plant initials on Atlantic labels.
Most of them seem to have the same letter on both sides, but I have seen one that had an X on one side and a Y on the other.
Here's an example:
A release variation I just submitted: http://discogs.sitiosdesbloqueados.info/viewimages?release=5700301
The original one in the database: http://discogs.sitiosdesbloqueados.info/viewimages?release=2393990
It seems to me that the only difference is the R on mine and the B on the other. -

IDK, looking at the variation you subbed I originally thought you were talking about the label matrix. But in the already existing version there is a "B" on the A-side. No idea what it means.
With regard to the notes, the IR-9934 cat# is on the labels, not the vinyl ;) -

Fixed - I bet it's something like the manufacturer Id numbers on the polydor labels. But I haven't seen a mention of it anywhere -

The list below
That is good to know!
Does anyone know if this is specific to A&M? If so, it should probably be added to the profile... -

I think it is, them and the labels they distribute. I haven't seen it anywhere else at least. -

I think this is the complete list (I sorted it by code, and added Electrosound Los Angeles because Monarch was renamed):
B = Electrosound Group Midwest, Inc.
C = Electrosound Los Angeles (1985–1986)
R = RCA Records Pressing Plant, Indianapolis
W = Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Carrollton, GA
X = Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Pitman
Y = Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Terre Haute
I went ahead and added this to the A&M Records label profile, and I updated the "W" plant's profile as well. I didn't check the other pressing plants' profiles. -

Interesting topic that has come up here. I am collecting Joe Jackson records and had already made a list of various label/pressing plant differences of his A&M US singles that I'm aware of. I'll post details below, but the main question for me is, if these differences qualify indeed for new submissions? I'd be glad to see it, but I'm unsure in regards of 1.4.4 of the general guidelines.
In detail, I've noticed the label letters start in Joe Jackson's US discography with the release Home Town in July 1986.
I haven't noticed these label differences for the promo versions yet, except for Home Town: R, W (Promo: no letter)
Hope you'll find this interesting too and whoever can shed some light on these mentioned mysteries or could add some more pressings or details, please help. Thanks. -

I have a copy of A & M SP-4912, Joan Armatrading's "The Key" (1983) with an "A" on the label. Not sure of pressing. Has a 2 3/4" press ring. "A" is to the left of A & M logo-slightly smaller than the other letters I have seen. I'll add sub tonight with photo.
Runout/deep etch:
A) A & M SP 04912-A GD-2
B) A & M SP 04912-B GD-2
I would appreciate any assistance here. -

GD in deadwax = Electrosound Group Midwest, Inc. (code B).
And another code:
Z = Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Santa Maria -

I have a Police Outlandos d'Amour LP, red lettering front of jacket. There is an A beside the A&M on the media label. So it looks like this will be a Goldisc Recording Products, Inc.? I don't see the "A" version currently catalogued. Is there a simple way to copy everything from a similar entry, like the "B" variant for example, and just change the "B" to an "A" and submit it? I am new to all of this. Thanks for all of the help to this point above. -

If your line of sight is oriented from the bottom of the vinyl to the middle hole, the delta symbol mentioned above is vertically oriented, while the two dots in the circle are horizontally oriented. If that makes sense. -

Hi Folks,
I recently edited this release:
https://discogs.sitiosdesbloqueados.info/release/7581917-Reggatta-De-Blanc/history?utm_campaign=submission-activity&utm_medium=email&utm_source=relationship#latest
by changing the "Y" that had been listed in FTF to "y," as that is exactly what is printed on the label. Another disagreed, saying that Guidelines state all words in FTF should be capitalized. I disagreed, as "y" is exactly as printed on the label - it's not something like "Pitman Pressing" or "Orange Labels," which are not actually printed, but are rather descriptors.
Any opinions would be valued.
Thanks!

Terre Haute pressings had the letter code on their labels as either "Y" or "y." I would take such pressings on a case-by-case basis. 'X' and 'Z' are letters that pretty much look the same either capital or lower-case. If it's shown as 'y' on the label, present it as 'y'. If it's 'Y', list it as 'Y'. Simple as that. A shame that guidelines demand such code always entered in caps regardless of whether it's that way on the label or not. -

Should each different manufacturer version have a separate entry? -

Thank you, this is going to make things even more complex with the YMO Multiplies and BGM albums then! -

everyone here should take a look at this thread: https://discogs.sitiosdesbloqueados.info/forum/thread/386878
and specifically, search the page for the term "PART FOUR - LIST OF CODES ON CENTRE LABELS"
I think you'll find it helpful. -

Hello,

I think this is the complete list (I sorted it by code, and added Electrosound Los Angeles because Monarch was renamed):
I was going to update this very sparse submission Electrosound Group Midwest, Inc.? There is no 'ELA' anywhere in the runout.
Side A, etched: A&M SP04893 A MON1 MR △25433
Side B, etched: A&M SP04893 B MON1 MR △25433x
Thanks,

'ELA' for Monarch Record Mfg. Co.; both sharing the same 'C' code on the label.
There was another code, used in the early 1980's, 'A'. That signified Goldisc Recording Products, Inc., as I noted several posts above; such copies would have 'GD' in the runouts.
