So when you find a MOFI or Rhino that sounds pretty darn good but you think your fifty plus year old OG still sounds way better, which one do you go to to play? I'm thinking wear out the MOFI and preserve the OG. In the case, "The Cars" debut. I have the Nautilus half speed, it sucks, the 2009 MoFi, sounds great, and the Specialty Records Corp OG that sounds the best of the lot. BTW, I don't have the Rhino High Fidelity, not going $200 for it. -

I don't collect a lot of audiophile LP's. There are great original press records. -

I think it depends on the moment your in: do you want to use your gear to listen to music or do you want to use music to listen to your gear? Let that be your guide. -

do you want to use your gear to listen to music or do you want to use music to listen to your gear?
Both can be simultaneously true. -

I play them all from time to time depending on the whim of the moment.
Wear them out? If you have a good stylus and handle them carefully, you won't wear them out. Case in point: The 50 year old OG you mentioned. Is it worn out after 50 years? -

which one do you go to to play?
The one that sounds best, of course.
What sense does it make to "preserve" the best sounding one, if the best sound can only be enjoyed by playing it? -

If you're like me, over 50 with damaged hearing from decades of loud music & rock shows, you'll simple just listen to what sounds best to you. If I'm going to spend the Rhino or MoFi price for a record (which I'm probably not going to do) then you better believe that I'm going to put it on & play the hell out of it. I buy records to listen to, not to put on the shelf as some kind of trophy. -

Totally agree. My thinking was going toward this: If the Mofi is more than good enough why not play the heck out of it and minimize the wear and tear, handling etc of the original? But. If you don’t play the original, why have it? So far my answer is keep playing both. -

That is one reason why I rip my vinyl. I used to say that I would wear out the tapes and not the vinyl. Now, digital doesn't wear out. And it makes it much easier to do actual comparisons as to which issue I prefer to listen to for the long term. -

Mofi is a bunch of marketing ripoff artists. I prefer my Petula Clark OG and BA.
