good job, united record pressing! sounds great and doesn't skip or sound like crap on this 2011 reissue

Absolutely silent throughout and the balance seems great to me. Not getting the overly bright sound or too much high end. But maybe that's just me...no complaints whatsoever though. Fantastic album and super happy to add to the collection.

Edited 2 years agoDid a direct comparison with the original pressing I acquired after owning this one for years. The original pressing (noted by the matrix and the Epic logo on the back cover) is definitely a different master, confirmed by listening and observing the spacing between tracks. The original press is cut louder but also with more dynamics. This repress is a bit more compressed. Most notable in the bass, the original sounds like a subwoofer has been turned on, also more crankable. Original is also warmer but the treble is a little clearer at the same time. This press has the upper mids and treble sitting a bit more forward in the mix, but they sound a bit congested/blurry sometimes. Not going to get into the analogue/digital debate or speculate whether this is the CD master. This is still a great sounding pressing. Some may even prefer the more forward sounding presentation on their system. Mine is free of pressing issues, quiet, and still sounds excellent for this type of music. If you have a keen ear and a good hifi though you might find the original worth it at current prices (£50).

My matrix numbers and label text are identical to the ones here with one exception. Right after the E-287125 there is a Roman numeral “II”. Was this a miss? I’ll it it’s etched a lot lighter than the rest matrix number so I’m thinking it’s a miss. Anyone else notice this?

Edited 2 years agoLooks like the most recent version (currently available) as of 2022 is this pressing, as it has the dreaded circle-U and WG in the deadwax. Sounds good overall but I did notice some noise throughout side 2 (and yes, cleaned it) and some "knocking" at the end of side 3 on Blame it On The Tetons.
Kind of annoying that this pressing is $40 new and there's even slight defects. United Record Pressing, get your shit together. -
Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but I really wish they would release a vinyl without the bonus track. "The Good Times Are Killing Me" is a perfect closer track.
