They need to repress this on vinyl so badly, and I don't care if it's the shitty remasters or not. Mostly due to the fact that like 300 pressings were made (not sure if thats confirmed or not) and because I don't want to spend 800 dollars on a pressing of CW, so instead for the meantime I'll stick with a CD until repressings get announced.

Edited one year agoThere is little variation in speed / pace from CTE through Cryptic Writings. In fact, "The Disintigrators" from CW is harder than anything from CTE and Youthanasia. That song is pure thrash metal. Let's be honest with ourselves for a moment: Countdown has more in common with CW than it does with RIP. Megadeth fans shit all over CW because others do, it seems. Did they forget that Youthanasia exists? Fans will love all over "A Tout Le Monde" (slower than most songs on CW and extremely radio-friendly) but trash almost anything on CW.. it's very strange, like some kind of cognitive dissonance. It's a really well-produced and strong album.

Let me just say this about this album. It stinks (as a Megadeth album). There are some good songs but I when it came out. I was bummed out by Metallica's "Load" and thought oh please Megadeth come to the rescue with some bad ass thrash metal. I went to Easy Street Records in West Seattle, they had a promo copy. I put it on and almost cried when I heard this. I knew then that it was over for thrash metal in the 90's with the exception of Slayer/Pantera. Every band I grew up with was chasing the "Black Album" radio friendly tracks and it was a major let down for those who were looking for some ass kicking thrash metal. Look you can say that all bands needs to do something different and I agree, but when it sucks it sucks. And there are some jams on here but this album over all sucks. Depressing years for those who lived in this time. I then moved on to Fear Factory and Death Metal cus at that time it was all that kicked ass besides Pantera. I now enjoy this record because I do not take everything so seriously as I did at that time. This record and "Risk" are good records... Just not good Megadeth records.

Any idea when this would get a reissue (no, not a remaster) on regular black vinyl. It's been too long. Really need this on vinyl. Ogs are impossible to buy. Thanks.

I have had this disc since it came out. I bought my first one from BMG record club. The CD that I got is printed Megadeth-Cryptic Writings but the music on it is F**king Yanni-Tribute from 1996. I kept it thinking that it may be collectible some day. I ended up just going to the record store and purchasing a new copy there. Has anyone heard of this copy I hold in my collection?

Still nothing this year about a vinyl repress. I can't imagine how the guys that are responsible for repress and edition do not understand what people want. This piece may be the most wanted Megadeth repress as I never saw it under 200$ (moreover with no cover), but they keep on pressing rust in piece every 5 years... Really I don't understand. We need a huge serie of repressings in Megadeth's albums (Cryptic writings / Risk is a sample, but for people who don't own the albums after RIP and before the system has failed, it's a shame that we are forced not to listen to them.) Even Metallica repressed their awfull last albums. What the f**k are you waiting for ????

I listen to them 30 years ago. It was the first thrash-speed metal to my young & virgin ears. How I can believe that CRYPTIC WRITINGS is their best album.....isn't it???
