Quiet? A bit, maybe. But I am almost certain this was Jim's intention. As for the low-end criticisms... I don't hear them on my copy. In fact, I feel the opposite. Overall, very happy with this, his best singer-songwriter album to date (imho).

Like with a lot of modern pressings that have complaints, I've had a different experience. Of the two copies I've owned (overseas moves are the enemy of record collections), the first was just slightly noisy at a couple points, the second fine. It DOES seem rather quiet, but I wonder if that's the result of its massive low end. Perhaps there's so much happening at the low end of the frequency spectrum that the overall effect is to make it seem relatively quiet. Either way, I don't get the complaint that it lacks bass!

Defs pressed pretty quiet with a lackluster low end but if you crank up the gain on your pre amp and beef up the bass on your amp it sounds pretty solid. As for surface noise, a little hum never killed anyone y’all, it’s a vibe relax

Quiet record, but that's pretty easy to fix by, ya know, SLIDING THAT VOLUME THE FUCK UP. No scratches or pops on my copy.

Pops from scratches on the first tracks of both sides, note: on a mint version. A new, sealed record! Too bad. Very enjoyable songwriting.

After receiving a second copy - I returned the first one because it had a scratch on it (see my comment below) - I can definitely assert that this album has a vinyl pressing problem. Volume is much too low and when you turn it up, you get more surface noise than music, especially on the quieter parts. It's bad, especially as this is one of last year's very best albums. The songwriting and musicianship are superb, with beautiful arrangements. It sounds as a lost 70s soft-rock gem and it's a testament to Japan's current musicianship. Too bad it is spoiled by the careless vinyl mastering and pressing job.

not sure if all drag city Lp's are cut like this one, the one i have of Joanna Newsom 'Ys' sounds great and dynamic, but surprisingly this one sounds really discreet, volume is really low ! Well.. once adjusted it sounds ok. Great LP though... and cover print is great
