Reviews

The quality of this album, the totality of what makes this a great connection with the listener is the endless jam sessions, touring and creating a final product everyone involved can be proud of.
This is not a case of ''great marketing'' from an ''overrated band''.
Just say you don't like it and move on. Kamasi and his huge entourage of elite musicians have been chopping wood like crazy for years; touring, finding rehearsal spots and polishing this epic album. 10 years ago!
I love this album because it's original, incorporating many different jazz styles and genres. Each song seems to meld to the next.
If he was but a plant, a marketing scheme with minimal talent, he would have evaporated a year or 2 after this came out in 2015. Instead he recorded 3 more equally fascinating albums, toured like a man and paid / fed a band of 12 and countless others.
This is all from the heart, mind and soul of K.W. and his co-horts.
Listen to Herbie and the other jazz greats speak of his music and approach.
    Peace.

I am busy for more then 40 years with music collecting, concerts and am open to different sorts of musical experiences.
Don't know exactly, bust probably tens of thousands of musical pieces came by.
I did really tried this one, but after several, definitely more then five times, I can not understand what should be that georgous about it.
Sounds like somebody technically very / highly skilled ( think of Marsallis brothers ) but with hardly anuthing of value to communicate / say.
Well, if someone is making his / her's aquaitance for the very first, or one of the first steps into realm of this kind of music, it's
quite easy to be impressed by all this.
I wish this guy a lot of money on his way ( to where ?), but music has not that much to do with it.
Don't mind people loving it or those hyping/pushing it,but... beat least honest and see it for what it is:
        GREAT MARKETING !!!

Does anybody know why tracklists on CD's and on LP's differ ?
And what tracklist is correct ? Or both are correct ??

I’ve heard the future of Jazz and his name is Kamasi Washington. One triple album and a mini album so far. Warm, Soulful, Diverse, Complex, Melodic! I’m impressed!

I guess I would feel cheated if the vinyl copy I bought didn't have some minor flaw. For me, that flaw was on volume 3. side A1 (The Magnificent 7). It came with a light scratch out of the box at the very start of the song. A slightly irritating tick on it's first 4 rotations, and then a few light intermittent ticks over the next several rotations, only noticeable because I know it's there. If this were any other record, I'd probably be running back to the store for a refund. Somehow with this work of art, I feel it makes the record uniquely mine and I wouldn't have it any other way. It's not like I'm looking to sell what I consider to be one of the best music purchases I've ever made (and I am 47 years of age as I write this). Like many of my most favorite records, I'll probably get a 2nd copy at some point anyway. This is not just among the best albums of 2015, it's going to go down as an all-time classic. Run, don't walk, to get your original pressing of this masterpiece now!

Had a lot of problems with the pressing of the vinyl album too. I do play with a high-end set so I know I hear more than most others. It's true 30 min per side is too much too sound decent. Records where scuffed which sounded loud and audible, problems with warps, pressing bubbles, track 2 on Side A has some distortion which should not be there. Made a "decent" copy to keep from a few boxes and returned all others. Think I will play the CD a lot more, the LP should have been a 4 or 5 LP set.

What an epic album, nearly 3 hours of contemporary jazz which at no point get boring. I really do hope this gets a vinyl release, it deserves one.

Just wish they'd manufacture more of these; every place I've looked still has it on backorder.
