I am generally a person who don't buy singles, but I would if it includes non-album cuts (Rare Bird's "Sympathy" includes "Devil's High Concern", a non-album cut, which is why I bought that one too). At least with Earth & Fire, many of their non-album singles have ended up on compilations and CD reissues so you don't have to go without if you don't own a turntable or don't collect singles. "Memories" is one of those non-albums singles Earth & Fire released. I have to say "Memories" is simply one of their finest singles ever. It was even a number one Dutch hit. I really love this song, with those wonderful Mellotron ages, plus Jerney Kaagman's voice. It's also very catchy, no wonder why this did so well in Holland! Of course, there's that uniquely Dutch feel to their music that wouldn't fly over too well in America. Living in America, I have tell people they are not to be confused with Earth, Wind & Fire, they might have similar names, but they're hardly the same (EW&F is American, and the only thing both E&F and EW&F had in common was their exploration into disco in the late '70s, although E&F's style was more like ABBA by that time than anything EW&F would come up with). Check out the flip side, "From the End 'till the Beginnig". This is much further into King Crimson territory. The vocals start off not unlike something off Islands, and there is just a ton of insane use of Mellotron playing from Gerard Koerts, including pitch bending. In the world of prog, when Mellotron gets brought up when keyboardists are concerned, Mike Pinder is brought up, naturally, Tony Banks, Rick Wakeman, Robert Fripp (and also Ian McDonald), perhaps Thomas Johnson of Anglagard, but never Gerard Koerts. One listen to this, or their following LP, Atlantis and you'll see that Chris Koerts sure gave some killer Mellotron work. While most prog rock fans have an aversion to singles, thinking it's much more commercially-inclined, Earth & Fire's singles at that time were very much in line what they were doing on LP, and "Memories" proves that.
