The first LP of FREEDOM SUITE is outstanding, a set of eleven rock-solid tunes highlighted by "People Got To Be Free". The second LP, while displaying their range of influences and superb musicianship, is a bit self-indulgent, although the first several minutes of the soul-jazz/psychedelic freakout "Cute" rivals any Jack McDuff cooker from his Prestige days, and you can hear a fleeting snippet of Gene Cornish playing the riff that would propel their next album's title track, "See" about halfway through. This pressing sounds impressive, with great range from top to bottom, fine detail to the instrumentation, and a robust, full-bodied soundstage. My copy plays nice and clean with faint surface noise at the beginning of each side. Not a masterpiece, but perhaps the Rascals' most underrated album.
