The pressing for all these various versions are fundamentally the SAME.

The ORIGINAL UK GREENSLEEVES pressings are the same as later pressings in quality,
as are the Russian pressings , there is no difference in quality-
EXCEPT for the CDs that later are BRICKWALL, the earlier editions are not (until re-mastered!)

THE BIG DIFFERENCE (apart from the image of Scientist being obscured in the later G'S releases- often very humorously) is the ARTWORK has deteriorated with every later release as far as I can tell. Both the G/S & Russian releases suffer from poor ARTWORK presentation with BOTH BEING TOO DARK, compared to the originals they are both weak, with the G/S being a murky mess. Strangely the posters included are better quality, but of course lack Scientist.

The cover for this LP (Vampires) suffered the worst with an extra headlight on the boat totally obliterating Scientists image & ruining the overall picture.
On the other releases its's not done so badly- typically he just gets 'a new head' of the original producer.
The BIG SHOWDOWN Vs Jammy lp is possibly the most humorously done, with the 'round number' card placed right in front of him.

As far as the 'rights' issue goes it's an INDUSTRY & a lot of the issues are with peoples expectations, entitlement complexes & moral indignation. The tunes weren't Scientists to begin with, it's a producers prerogative & a record companies GAMBLE to release anything. When that is considered there is far less to be outraged about & people no longer need to jump on a pulpit in a frenzy of sermons about accusations !
I thought this was a good overview-

When this thing dropped back in 81 on Greensleeves, definitely a new sound in town for dub... more clarity, the bass got deeper, sounds like he was using the earliest digital delays... was kind of a divisive record for the old school dub freaks! Back in the day slip track one side one on in a late night smoke sesh and watch people jump out of their skins. Still take your head right off... despite his prolific career, I think this is the one I go back to the most.

Greensleeves, a bunch of criminal con artists that stole Scientists music and never paid him a penny. Knowing the true story behind this record really leaves a sour taste.

a crucial dub album to own, regardless of the later confusion with name changes and GTA 3 association. it has deep basslines, heavy reverbed drums matched with strange sound effects and great vocal samples. the idea explored on the album has an overall Halloween-esque feel to it and it sounds great in the dark. two of my finest memories of this album in my 20s playing it late at night in the headphones as the sounds really come alive and sitting in a squat and putting this album on for a smoking session. I'm not sure how the reissues sound but I recently got it on wax and the sound is terrific. I'm slowly working through some of his other releases to get a real feel for his sounds and music (i love the artwork of the early releases- another reason for purchasing them) but this for anyone new to the genre is a great starter wheel.

          "i want blood!"

This album will go down in history as one of the greatest DUB LP's to ever be released. What a production Scientist, The Roots Radics Band, & Henry Junjo Lawes! This album was a huge influence on my DUB love from the very start. Also what a blessing to hear the whole album on GTA 3; K-Jah with Horace "The Pacifist" Walsh ;)

Greensleeves records are completely trying to avoid paying Scientist at all cost by rereleasing his albums and re-titling them as "Junjo Rids The World Of The Evil Curse Of The Vampires" and "Junjo Heavyweight Dub Champion" etc. These rereleases will be out next month with altered artwork and all smh ... I hope one day that Scientist gets properly compensated after all these years of being ripped off from Greensleeves.
