Ram Trilogy – Titan EP

Titan is absolutely one of the best dnb tracks to ever hit our ears. If you had the chance to be there when this dropped in an Andy C set (live) between about 98 and 05 (he consistently played it for years and still does even today), you will know what I mean by saying the room would EXPLODE every time. Just an incredible tune on a big system with a hype crowd that is pure drum n bass joy.

Mediocre ram record, it's certainly not one of their better releases. By 2000 they were well past their prime.

Titan. The greatest tune ever made. And the rest of the EP is top class as well. A must have.

Whilst Titan is undoubtedly huge, it's always been about Reflections for me. An understated trance inducing roller.

Clubbing circa 2000 I hearing this one drop a couple of times at Rumba and not really feeling it - I realise now that this was because it was so unlike anything else I was hearing at the time.

That all changed one night at the End, that strange undulating bassline morphed into the apocalyptic juggernaut the track's title suggests, raging against that staccato amen/bongo break. I can literally where I was standing on the dancefloor when this track clicked for me and calling for the rewind!

Even in the mix now, almost 20 years later, when I catch a lick of that light intro synth or the feel that bassline starting to roll in, it makes me smile as I know I'm in for 5 mins of DnB at its finest... awesome track!

-Although not in the same league, the rest of the EP deserves not to be forgotten-
I Reflections getting massively caned by DJs - a smooth, hypnotic roller that simmers. Incoming, on the otherhand, is also a beast - with its neck snapping two step drums and a truly rolling bassline (you can almost hear it cartwheeling over itself) - in spite of its undeniable quality it was always going to be eclipsed by its bigger, nastier brother...

Titan's build and drop is something else, and if you like Drum and Bass and dont own this EP. Poke yourself in the eye and buy a copy now.

Without a shadow of a doubt one of the top three drum & bass tracks of all time. This motherfucker just took on a life of its own when it was let out of the Ram cave in 2000. "Titan" is an anthem of Godly proportions, and is a different kind of tearing. This moment in drum & bass lives up to its name – one of those rare tracks that enhances ANYTHING you mix it with it - it's like injecting steroids into a mix. Structurally, "Titan" is much like "The Nine" by Bad Company, not least because of its similar-ish structure after the drop. I can't think of another DnB song that can better be described as "a grower" than "Titan". The first time I heard it I was like, "What the hell is this?" DJ Hype was a massive er, and always double-dropped it with Shy FX's "Original Nuttah" back in the day. The seed was planted. Fast forward months (even years) and now when "Titan" drops, those same people whose ears were pricked the first time rave to it like it's the last thing they'll ever hear. Everyone I know who is or was into D&B are in total agreement that this 12" was utterly special, and everyone is always lost for words to properly describe it, as if it has some magical power embedded between its vinyl grooves. Like all the best tracks, it has incredible depth and is strangely different, for example, if you listen to it closely, there's all kinds of weird subliminal shit woven into the production that you didn't notice the first time around. To sum up – this is the sonic equivalent of a movie like Memento, that you can come back to again and again and still learn something new.

Pure genius, 10/10, unbelievably danceable... 'Titan' my favorite track for quite some time now, it just keeps growing on you. This is one of those rare moments captured on vinyl that can't be duplicated, and may never be bested. It is true this track really does have it all, Groovy rolling bassline, with plenty of variation, amazing effects, fast energetic highs, just sooo catchy, no vocals necessary, except for a random sample, if you dance to this song, you WILL be sweating by the end, influential, groundbreaking, holy smokes just go get it!

An absolute great all round ep which smashed the clubs upon it's release. Ram Trilogy consisting of Andy C, Ant Miles & Shimon, released this monster at their peak [more to come i'm sure] and soon after their stunning 'Molten Beats' album. The title tune 'Titan' is just a huge slab of superb beats & bass and is a drum & bass anthem of epic proportions. My personal fav from the ep though is 'Incarnate' with a smooth intro and a rolling techy drop which just sounds divine. 'Incoming' is a rolling monster with some nice futuristic touches.
Overall this is a must buy for all drum & bass fans and a lesson in dancefloor destruction.
