Notes

Original 7" EP edition. 1000 copies, released on the band's own label. The sleeve was printed on a 14" x 14" piece of thin cardstock and then folded into four squares.

Recorded at Pennine Sound Studio, Dec. 77
This is not a concept E.P. it's an enigma
All complaints:- Terry Mason

Numerous counterfeit editions of this release exist. Only the original vinyl has serrated vinyl around the label and different contours on the label.

While the band was known as Warsaw (3) during the recording sessions for this release, they changed their name to Joy Division before the release took place, and that is the name that appears on the record.

I bought my copy at a record fair in Manchester in 1988. Cost me a fair bit back then but I thought it was worth it. I finally got it autographed by Barney, Hooky and Steve in 2002. I haven't seen another copy with autographs and have no idea of what someone would be willing to pay for it. I played it once just after I bought it and should give it another spin just to check on quality of the vinyl. I could be tempted to sell but I'd be looking for a pretty good figure...

I sold my copy in early 1980 for £5 to a dealer on Portabello Rd Market (Canadian John) and thought I was doing well..! I wonder how much he sold it for? I'm making do with a coloured vinyl repro now.

Why has this never been properly reissued? No 7" in the world is worth thousands of dollars.

I was too dumb to realise how great/ important/ world-changing this band was until they had gone :( . I missed their records on release and had to catch up. ... in the mid-80's I got lucky.... the 7" Ideal, the 12" Ideal AND a totally complete Sordide Sentimentale.... on the wall in a little Central Manchester shop.... £40 each. I think I got him down to £110 for the three....result! All three are still sitting happily a few metres away as I type :)

Huh, never realized the 'warsaw boy' photo used for the inner part of the record, fits quite well with 'leaders of men'...

Why can't they reissue this again?

I never realized how much Failures is inspired by the Who...

Just some trivia: Deborah Curtis claims in her book Touching From a Distance that the majority of the sleeves were glued and put together by Ian Curtis himself so he could buy more Marlboro reds

Is anyone looking to trade this? I have an original Pink Floyd Arnold Layne UK promotional 7" with the extremely rare picture sleeve. If you're looking to trade please give me a message! I'm very interested in getting his record
