Edited 2 years agoExcellent pressing, very silent and clean. Even better than "The boy with the arab strap" on green vinyl. If all LPs were pressed with such care, I would be in heaven.

Edited 3 years agoI more or less agree with the other reviews here. It is a very warm sounding pressing. It doesn't have the most vibrant sound. I think calling it lifeless is a little harsh, but it could use a bit more brightness on elements like brass and piano. That said, I'm quite happy with the sound overall. My copy has some noise during the quiet parts, but I haven't given it a cleaning yet. Honestly, I find it perfectly acceptable. If having an early press matters to you, you can buy with confidence that you can hear the music with a reasonable amount of richness.

It's warm sounding, yes, but rather quietly mastered and a little lifeless. Not what I'd call a round or rich sound.

It is a nice first press for sure! Sounds warm enough but certainly wasn't EQ'd too much. Surface noise is okay (I have some distortion on side A but it could be just my copy). I like this press, but I've heard the 2009 repress (mastered at Abbey Road) sounds fine too - however I guess that one was digitally sourced. If you're looking for a pure analogue press, this is the way to go.
-
I've got both the original and just picked up the Remastered version by Frank at Abbey Road and it's fantastic! The original is okay (alas my copy has a small unremovable mark on it at the start of the first track which gives off ticks) - it's solid if a bit lifeless, but I would never pay up for an original when the job done on this 2018 version is so good... Flat, quiet, crisp - highly recommended!

Really nice sounding original. Plays well with little surface noise. Warm, round sound. Worth the price if you can swing it.

Looking to get this and really all the early Belle and Sebastian output on record, would everyone recommend UK 1st pressings or are any of the Matador re-pressings from throughout the 2000's okay?
