The mastering is a genius, to say the least. One of the problems with A Hard Day's Night's stereo mix was that the bass was too far to the left, and when the low frequencies were extended, the left channel became too strong, resulting in a mastering that was not very pleasant to listen to. Therefore, by extending the high frequencies, the mastering was focused on making the vocalist's energetic voice stand out, and by slightly lowering the low frequencies, the mastering was clear, beautiful, and greatly enhanced the cheerful atmosphere of the album. However, the drums and bass are a bit harder to hear and may not be as powerful in the speakers. Still, this EAS pressing is, in my opinion, the best mastered pressing of the album.

Yes it's a great pressing. Excellent sound quality and stunning sleeve. I miss a little LO end. But still.. it's still 5 stars though. Very well recommended.

This is the 1976 EAS series Japanese pressing of A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, and it sounds very dynamic, the intro note to "Any Time At All", which kicks off side two, practically explodes out of the speakers. It's certainly the most vivid and lively sounding version of the album I've ever heard. There's adequate low end, a vitality to the vocals that really stands out, and a good, punchy quality to the drums and guitars. My copy plays nice and clean, with no surface noise of note.

These stereo EAS Beatles reissues seem to get a lot of negative on audiophile forums. I’ve listened to them all, and will agree that there are some that disappoint when compared with other versions out there. This A Hard Day’s Night is not a disappointing listen at all. On the contrary, the sound quality is excellent—detailed and airy—and not too bright. The pressing comes at that Japanese standard, quiet and of high quality. Of the EAS series I recommend this for its crystal clear sound and dead-quiet pressing. It isn’t hard to find copies in good shape, with obi and all. The jackets and printing are great too.
