Astonishingly good album, ‘To Have And Not To Hold’ and ‘Frozen’ have to be 2 of the greatest songs written. Thanks due to ‘RMlegshaver’ for pointing out that Willem Makkee was involved with this 2003 vinyl pressing, he also did work for ‘Speaker’s Corner Records’. -

Edited one year agoBoth my copies of this pressing have bad cover art that is over saturated and harsh. I got two copies of the clear vinyl from Record Store Day, and the covers are beautiful. The 2015 pressing also looks much more like the Cd Art when I saw it in the store.
Anyone else with multiple pressings notice this is over saturated color wise and kinda muddyish? I’m just talking about the front cover. Every other pressing the front cover looks clean and pretty. -
The mastering of this album is so good even a cd sounds great. I had the 2019 version which was a bit less detailed but even more 3 dimensional.
This version has both. I wish most of records sounded like this. -
Great mastering, deep, with great frequency extension both towards bass and highs. Luscious sound. A bit of surface noise, but nothing too problematic (especially after cleaning).

Edited 2 years agoAbsolutely amazing sounding album. I don't own many pop albums but I can listen to this one forever. Outstanding production and perfect pressing.
Update: I didn't even notice Willem Makkee cut the lacquer for this one (320 in the deadwax). Look him up, he is very highly respected. -
Edited 5 years agoPlayed back to back with the later 2016 reissue, this one's a little crisper and the Bass not so heavy (a good thing). My copy was clean and doesn't suffer from surface noise as some other commenters have mentioned. If you have the 2016 don't sweat it too much, the differences are subtle rather than significant. The 2016 also comes with deluxe liners, not just the picture/lyric sleeves. -

This EU pressing sounds fantastic. Though (as far as I know) Ray of Light was recorded digitally, this LP was mastered from the original master tapes. SQ is amazing.
However... my copy has some surface noise, crackle issues. I cleaned the record, now it's tolerable. Such a shame, as the SQ is brilliant. -
A few pops at the beginning of track one but, that can be overlooked by the amazing sound on this album. I don't understand how they can shove 2 LPs in this sleeve. They should have made this a gatefold. Wonder how the Rhino release compares to sound quality?
